I recently purchased a Taurus Ultra-Lite Titanium .44 Magnum off ARMSLIST. It shoots great and is in great mechanical condition. It does have a few handling marks on it, mostly on edges where the black is worn off. Price was right. I met the guy in Walmart parking lot after dark to buy it.
I didn't notice it until I got home in the day light. On the right side of the shroud above and below the word ".44 Magnum" is scratched above the word Barack and below is the word Obama. Looks like it was done lightly with a very sharp object. Then it looks like someone tried to erase it with a pencil eraser so the shiny finish is dull. It is not noticeable unless you examine it closely. It would not show in a picture. You have to hold it at a certain angle and move up and down to see the words.
I was wondering if there is anything that would make the dull look shiny and if there is any thing I could color the scratched words that would bring back the black color. They have black and also blue bluing pencils in sporting goods shops. Would this work on titanium? Any ideas?

Holy crapolee!
Uhhh…
Go find that seller & pistol whip him with that gun today!
Then, I can only see two ways out of this mess. Have it refinished, or take it out & shoot it with something HUGE to put it out of it's misery. If you choose to have it refinished, you had probably better sand off the offending reference first. Just a word to the wise.

When I first noticed this I couldn't make out all the letters in the Barack word and didn't even notice the scratches on the bottom. When I made out the bottom word, Obama, I then figured it out. Living in Alabama I first thought a University of Alabama fan had done it. Every redneck in Alabama that didn't go to college has a Bama tag on the front of his mud truck.
The evil doer had to be an Obama hater. I can't imagine an Obama fan even owning a gun of this kind. I probably will just shoot it rather than trying to get it redone. It wouldn't be noticed at the range unless I pointed it out. I just thought maybe someone on the forum would have an idea.
The guy I bought it from said he bought it at a gun show. He got a 3-gun package deal for a good price. Likely he didn't notice it at the show. He was a Yankee from Mass. come south to get away from the snow. Can't say as I blame him there. We sometimes get 1-2 inches at least once in winter so I just stay home and let the working folks fight the idiots who don't know how to drive in the snow.

That's interesting and sicking to think about. How could some ignoramus defile a work of art by putting Obama's name on it. It must have come out of Chicago. I wish no ill toward Obama but if I'm going to put someone's name on my pistol, it's going to be my name. I have never heard of such a thing. I'm one of those type of people that would have to fix it. I suppose it won't polish out. Good luck with that. Show us a pic of it when you have a chance.

As bad as I hate to admit it I lost my cheat sheet with directions on how to post a picture here. Yes I know, I'm old. The hard part is getting the pics on photobucket.
For those of you who are curious enough to email me, I will send pictures. My email is twhorsin@windstream.net

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm no expert on polishing but I do have a couple of ideas. Mother's Mag Polish works on stainless. It will (slowly) put a shine on brushed stainless. It is slow going. If it's too slow you could try some 1000 grit, maybe even 600 grit, sandpaper. I was told to get it at an auto paint store. Supposedly the grit is uniform on sandpaper intended for auto paint finishing. I was specifically told not to get it a big box hardware store, that I'd be sorry. I'm guessing both will work on titanium, but I don't know for sure. You do run a risk of winding up doing the whole gun, a lot of work. Good luck.

Just when you think you have heard it all !
Tell you what I would do Hoss , give Taurus a call next week let them
know what happened and what you found, let them know you are
a dedicated NRA member and that you can not bare to look at
this firearm with Obama's name on it and ask them to help you fix
this "Obamanation" . You might be surprised what they do for you.
I''ve had many personal experiences dealing with Taurus over the
years and they have all been above and beyond positive. I can''t
count how many times they have sent me free parts for nothing
more than shipping cost.

Oh what the heck, scruff up that horrendous ill-placed graffiti with some 1500 grit sandpaper & a re-bluer may be none the wiser. If you have it refinished in that gleaming "DW blue" and you'll probably double your money on resale.
Nobody needs to know the sort of defamation & flagrant debaucheristic (woops, that's probably not even a word) tendencies that the poor gun has been subjected to lately, at the hands of some loony leftist in it's past captivity...dang, I now realize that I could have been an "occupy whatever" slogan scribbler last month. Good grief, I could have eaten for free!!!
What I meant to say is that the the poor gun has been subjected to enough abuse, go get it blued. hehe
