Although it is not quite my birthday yet, a birthday gift "arrived" at my FFL from my brother. I can't quote any of the note included because most of it characterizes me as a doddering old fool, or questions my gender identification for not owning at least one more rifle to accompany my AR.
Never have owned or fired a lever action rifle, and I already load for .357 Magnum.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Well fellas, here's the genesis of how the doddering old fool got his birthday present. I bought that particular Big Boy in .38/.357 last year as a Christmas present for myself. Right after that, they came out in .41. I was mildly ticked. I've been keeping an eye out for one ever since. Found one at a good price and bought it. Thought I'd sell the .38/.357, then had an Epiphany.
This is where it gets fun.
Steve has one rifle, an AR, built for him by his son freerider04 (who also built one for me). Now no self respecting man, hence the "questions my gender identification" comment, owns just one rifle! So, I got a hold of his son to find out who Steve's LGS of choice is. Called them and arranged the transfer. Called my sister-in-law, who I like a whole lot more than I like her husband, and arranged for her to be in contact with the LGS. So my new Big Boy in .41 was delivered yesterday here in TX. Steve's almost new (100 rounds down the tube) Big Boy was delivered in CT yesterday and picked up today.
I REALLY would have loved to be there today when she said, "Honey, I want to go to the gun store" ..........
and Steve responded "".
The first pic is the actual rifle he received. The other one is the pic Ron referenced.
We may have to work on Steve's basic rifle familiarization before we turn him loose!
Happy early Birthday Brother. Enjoy it!

Great story and cool rifle. I'll be interested in the range report, as I've been thinking of a Winchester 1892, Rossi 92 or an Uberti 1873.
I can tell you the one Steve just got was a pure joy to fire. You can really see the difference between .38 and .357. I'm taking a guy to the range tomorrow for his second handgun trip ever. I'm going to try and throw a few downrange with my new .41 Big Boy time permitting.

Wish I had a bro like you, BruceMy buddy's got one on Xmas list , can't deside on .357 or .44
Another has a .45 Colt cal. loves it
The choice for me comes down to what do I reload. Steve's son has one in .44 that he's going to have re-chambered to .445. Now that made me go, hmmmmm.

Very nice birthday present! And in my favorite revolver cartridge.
I had a Marlin 1894S in .41 Magnum, which I really liked, but I ended up trading it to a friend. Why would I do that, some may ask?
Got a Dan Wesson PM7 in 10mm Auto in the trade. Worth it for the DW, and I have many .41 Magnums already.

Happy Birfday - what a great gift and brother you have....
Please don't do this, it just reinforces his sense of superiority, he already knows that Mom liked him best

How come I never knew about this lever action stuff before? Feels really natural.
I am definitely not a rifle guy, can I just consider this a really big pistol that just works a little different?
I'm gonna have some fun with this, and having a rifle common calibered with four of my other guns that I reload for just makes it better

Well, I knew I had to dumb it down for you.
