After my passion for Dan Wessons and XP-100's, I've always loved a .22LR. Low noise, low recoil, cheap to feed, there is nothing like an afternoon spent plinking with a rimfire. The first ever cartridge-firing gun I shot was a .22 rifle, and my first real handgun I bought was a Ruger MKII Target, back in 1985. This one had seen many changes over the years…iron sights, Aimpoint MKII, Simmons 2x, Pachmayr grips. Today it wears a Leupold 2x scope and custom left-handed Hogue grips.
Still a joy to shoot and still going strong after many thousands of rounds. Here's my other .22LR handguns, in no particular order. I won't put them in one post, cause it would be a long one. Besides, how else am I going to increase my post count.
Gary J. post: I have one just like yours here minus those pistol grip. I have a different scope mount on mine. Your's mount is more sturdy than mine. I have a lot of great memories shooting mine. I need to pull it out and shoot it some more. They are very accurate even out to 100 yds.

Haven't bought a lot of guns recently, due to forced retirement, but I did get this one. Anschutz 1416L Pistol. In 2016, I was contacted by someone from Anschutz who wanted to bring back the discontinued Exemplar. We discussed this and I gave him my views of the current handgun silhouette competition and what I thought the shooters might want.
Anschutz decided to make only 100 of the new handguns, no longer called Exemplars, and I got one of the first ones in late November 2015. This is the way it came from the factory.
There are a lot of similarities to the older Exemplar XIV, and some subtle differences. The original Exemplar trigger was very nice, but they upgraded this one to an even nicer trigger. I've put a scope on it, the same version Leupold 6.5-20x to do ammunition testing. Don't know if I will keep it scoped or use the iron sights on it, but either way, I really like it.

WOW that is a nice looking set up IHMSA! Anschutz builds, I think, the best .22 caliber firearms available. I have no experience with their pistol platform but I own two rifles, both sporting rifles, a 164 sporter, which was my first real gun I got when I was about 8-9 years old. The other is a 1415 Kadet I picked up at a little local gunshow a few years ago. My daughter likes shooting it. I also had the privilege to shoot one of their Olympic competition rifles for a year back in my college days. That gun once dialed in felt like an extension of my own arm, and accurate! Loved shooting that thing, wish I had it now. Sorry to hijack your thread, it's just not that often I see others who have any experience with the Anschutz brand.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

In the Fall of 2005, I told Dean, since he loved the Freedom Arms guns, to order from Freedom Arms and get whatever he wanted on a new gun and it would be a gift from me.
I can't remember what else he got on the gun, but it was a pretty special gift from me.
He and I love the octagon barrel and I'm so happy he paid extra just to get that on the gun. The 97 is a Premier Grade gun and of course, a 22.
That's one I'm definitely keeping and not selling when the time comes. There will most likely be a couple of other guns I'll keep also.

I just want to mention the reason Dean titled this as "It's only a 22", because he wrote an article on the 22 titled that.
Dean and I when we were talking about the 22 guns, we'd say to one another, "it's only a 22" in a laughing and fun way.
These are all is own words and own photos.

He wrote other articles, but I guess before I post links to them, I'd better find out where on DW to post them.

Funny you should mention that article, I read it just a few weeks ago- I think on the IHMSA website but maybe on SP? I don't really recall. If you want to send articles he wrote, I can get them posted in the supporter section.
