Hi,

I almost want to appoligize for posting this question on the DW forum.  But, you all have experiance with owning a weapon in which the manufacturer no longer services your pistols and I think I can trust your opinions.

A friend is offering me this pistol with two magazines and a shoulder holster.  There is wear on the outside, looks to be from the holster.  The barrel looks good and sharp but I did have to clean it to check it out.  The owner says he has only fired about 3 or 4 Mags since new.

LAR still sells some parts but do not service the weapon.  Ammo is expensive but I reload and would do the same with this.

Your opinions and comments please..

Glen

Good Evening Glen,

If the gun is in good condition and it was something I wanted I would go for it.  With the internet parts can be found and I'm sure a gunsmith could be found that has experience with them if needed down the road.

Good Luck, Jody

Thats a really nice pistol. Made in the U.S.A. Jordan Utah. Is that a MK I model you're looking at. If so thats a well made one. They will no doubt become a collectors pistol. They are bigger than a 1911 and have some serious fire power. Some models will shoot a 230 gr. bullet at 2100 fps. They were made from 1983-1999. I know of people that have shot 1000s of rounds through them without any problems. If you are getting it at a good price it sounds like a good deal. It kicks hard and is super loud. Good luck on your choice.

Snowman,

I don't know much of anything about the Grizzly guns, but I have in my own way categorized them along with the Wildey's as a collector piece.  Like Gary mentioned the round rocks, I have fired 45 Win Mag from my DW 460 Rowland and it is a potent little cartridge.

Thanks for your opinions.  I've just about made up my mind to buy it.  It is the Mark 1 with an extention on the slide that looks to work like porting to control the recoil.  And just like with DW people got some strange misconceptions about this pistol.

A set of repacement springs for my DW came in this afternoon; Yea!!  Tomorrow morning I plan on installing them and going to the range with both the DW and the Grizzly in the afternoon and see how they shoot.

The LAR Grizzly was quietly made in a northern Utah suburb probably only 15 miles from where I worked for 10-12 years. And because I didn't have a thumb on the local gun scene at the time, I had no idea.embarassed  Now they have discontinued their handguns (most likely at the behest of some stupid BATF law) & have since moved into the AR & single shot 50 BMG arena. If I hadn't taken such a strong interest in DW's, I would probably own few of these.laugh

If you can find a LAR handgun for under $1K, you'd better grab it! From what I have seen, $1400 for a clean one is just about market value, IMO. I hope you bring it home, and I hope you show it off when you do.cool-pics

Took all day but I am the owner of a LAR Grizzly.  I didn't get a chance to go to the range.  The temp was a little over freezing and I would have had to tramp through a lot of snow but I sure wish I had the chance.

I need to clean this thing and hopefully early next week I'll get some pictures and also be able to tell you how it shoots.
