I basically stole this gun in a recent auction. Put in a ridiculous bid just to add it to my watch list, but there were already 25 bids on it. I figured it would go high, like most I've seen, in the $800+ region. Imagine my surprise when I got an email stating I won!

An IAI Javelina in 10mm Auto, my favorite semi-auto cartridge. With the 7" barrel and Millett adjustable sight, it is called the Hunting Model and is made by Irwindale Arms, the successor to AMT. I took it to the range for a quick session, and it functioned well with my mild loads from my Gold Cup...sure was fun! With our shooting season basically over, I have the winter to get some loads ready for this.

I restored one of Dean's photos that is his Javelina 10 Auto.  I don't know which one he originally posted, but this looked liked the best of the bunch.

I used to have one of the AMT 10mm versions, with the standard length slide.  The one I had always functioned flawlessly.  I have read of people calling them "jam-o-linas".  I think this was likely to be from a lack of proper maintenance and or lubrication.  These guns came out when stainless steel was a new thing in 1911 pistols.  People accustomed to running a 1911 Govt almost dry found out that stainless will gall in such a situation.

Mine was sold to fund a Dan Wesson purchase Big Grin

IHMSA80x80, that's a fine weapon and it looks like a keeper!

I guess this one qualifies as a  Grand Theft Irwindale Arms. OK, no throwing rotten fruit or anything...

Auction price I paid was $350. Surprised

No one has yet shot a 40x40 in IHMSA competition with a 1911 of any kind. The Field Pistol course, which is where these type guns usually compete in, is a Standing only competition. The few perfect scores there have been recorded were mostly shot with the .22 Hornet in a single-shot. A big hindrance in the Production categories to 200 meters is the short barrels that don't lend themselves to the creedmoor position very well, and most 1911's don't have adjustable sights.

Perfect 40x40's have been shot with the 10mm Auto cartridge in Production Big Bore, but they were with single-shot firearms. I have a couple of them with a 10" Contender.

When I was in Germany the Rod and Gun Club in Wiesbaden had a nice gun shop, selling some local makes, the one I wish I had bought was a "Peter Straub" 1911A1 copy with a long slide, 11'' I beleive, I just didn't have the extra cash AND our buddies at ATF were not allow auto loaders to be privately imported,  Nice gun though, yours reminded me of it.
