This gun originaly was a 44 cap + ball black-powder Uberti Cattleman ( Peacemaker clone ) I always wondered if the guns were regular 45 Colt Cattleman but with cap + ball cylinder so i bought a 45 Colt cylinder from Brownells. Dam if it didn't drop right in...just needed small amount milled from rachet...timing was even ok ! The hammer had offset firing-pin to hit caps on blk powder cyl...but was simple swap to Colt style firing-pin. Only hurdle was moving firing-pin hole in frame over to center of frame, gunsmith friend did nice job there ! Now i have sweet shootin 45 Peacemaker clone for well under $300 ! The action on these Uberti's are real smooth...thing almost cocks itself. Shot over 200 rnds without a hitch last 2 days with loads ranging from 530 FPS to 900 FPS. Trying some short brass called 45 COWBOY SPL.. 3.5 grs Trail Boss fills case half way...makes for nice popcorn-fart loads ! Anyway it sure is kool stuffing big ole 45 Colt loads in such a small frame gun. 20 yrds off-hand can keep em in black + hit my 75 yrd 10 '' gong 5 for 5 first time out.

I never would have thought of doing that. I have the 1883 44 Army black powder pistol. Black powder doesn't create the shockwave or kickback smokeless powder does. I would worry about the frames integrity. Uberti is one of the better black powder pistols out there. The pistol looks great.
