Ever since we saw an article on the Wildey magnum in the mid 80's, my wife and I have wanted one of those guns. I have spent most of the last 3 months in Hamden, CT. The Wildey "factory" is only about 60 miles from there in Warren, CT.
I decided that since my son had last Thursday afternoon off(after a 30 hour shift), I would see if we would be allowed to visit the headquarters. So I called and talked to Michael Bedard who is in charge during a complete company re-org.
Michael is a very nice person and told us to "come on down". We drove out there and found that the company is located in a long low building on a farm. Aside from Michael there was only the office manager there because of the re-org. However, we spent an excellent hour talking with Michael who assured us that the Wildey will be back in production shortly after the first of the year. The guns are beautiful and beautifully made. He only had a couple available but he also had a lot of spares so he could show us how the gun is built and how the interchangeable barrels work. One of the guns was a 6 inch with basic engraving. The other was an 8 inch with gold accents and engraving with gold applique. I am not normally a fan of engraving, but that second gun was stunning. Despite the gold, it was still fairly conservative looking. The grip handle is large, but certainly no larger than that of a Dessert Eagle and maybe even a tad smaller.
He also showed us a couple examples of the JAWS project before we left.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable visit. And yes, there will probably be a Wildey in my future. BTW, I asked which cartridge I should choose, the .475 Wildey Magnum or the .45 Winchester Magnum. Surprisingly he said that unless I want to hunt Elephant, the .45 WinMag was the way to go.
It was a very enjoyable visit for my son and me, and a lovely tour through the Connecticut countryside.

Mike,
Excellent Wildey report. They are cool looking guns and I would someday like a 45Win Mag, I just did not know whether an out of production Grizzly or a Wildey would be it. I will be looking for your range report after you get your Wildey
A man cannot have too many SuperMags
