Anyone ever shoot one? I did today-OUCH!
The DA trigger pull seemed to be about fifteen pounds, and the owner said he had lightened it up. The ammo is really funky, then I discovered that the cylinder moves into battery with the barrel on every shot. Very strange!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Actually a little bitty bang, a 7.62 mm bullet seated at or below the case mouth to allow the cartridge to "gas seal" into the barrel. The DA pull is atrocious, the SA pull is only horrible.

I actually really like the looks of these. That round is supposed to be pretty stout. The allure used to be cheap ammo but that's been a'changin. I guess it would still be a pretty cool toy.

Little bang? Geez, that's sort of a deflator. I had pictured something similar to an old Ruger .44 Old Army that I witnessed a few years ago. Sort of a poof..BANG scenario. That one was pretty cool really, I'd like to try one out myself.

More on the Nagant 1895:

Scroll down to the picture of the ammo, and the front face of the cylinder.
Seems like one more solution looking for a problem

I have one. They are really neat. They could use a trigger job. You have to watch the movie, "Enemy at the Gate" to really appreciate this fine weapon. The movie is about 2 great Snipers. The Russian is using the Nagant and the German is using the 98 Mauser. The greatest sniper movie ever made and based on some very true facts.

I've had one for a while. Neat looking and fun to shoot. Original loads pushed a roughly 100 grain bullet somewhat over 1000 fps. Current new ammo is usually under 800 fps with an 85 gr. bullet. Old Russian ammo can still be found that nearly 1000 fps with the heavier bullet. The difference in recoil is quite noticeable. Yeah, the trigger's pretty bad, but then it's made like a Russian tractor...

After reading this thread I looked up the movie. Took me awhile to find a DVD (cheap) but I finally got one. Great movie! Thanks.

I own two. They are an interesting design. They also happen to be the only revolver that can use a suppressor, if using the original ammo. They are kind of fun to shoot but the idea is you are holding a piece of history in your hands. They also compliment my M38 and M44 Mosin-Nagants. Guns are cheap ammo is not. I would not even think about one for hunting, man nor beast. I have much better tools for that. These are more in the curio and toy group.
