In another topic I led us a little "off Topic", surprising almost no one, I'd guess!
So what non DW 1911's to you have, want, or otherwise want to talk about?
My first 1911 was a Taurus PT 1911, that I had some slide refinishing and different grips done on. I also did a little fitting and tinkering on the internals. It ultimately became a partial trade in on my PM-1S
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I have three DW 1911s and three non-DW 1911s. The top is a "deployment commemorative" Para Hi-Cap- it commemorates an 'extended' deployment in Baghdad. Center is a 'parts gun'- the first gun I ever "built", suffice to say that I built it about the time the Army switched from 1911s to M9s. The bottom is a Kimber compact stainless- a commonly carried piece of hardware.
Leshia keeps the rest of my non-Dans on her hands....
//EDIT// Had to take down the picture of her rings. When she saw the pic, she said, "boy do my hands look old". I said, "well, they're connected to the rest of your body" and that was that. Now I'm washing the sheets that go on the hideaway bed...//EDIT//
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I wish I could get a DW 1911 here in MA.
What I do have is a 1944 Colt 1911A1. It had been stripped, lightly polished then blued when I got it. It showed very little wear and I suspect it was never fired much. Whoever stripped it was kind enough to not round over edges or wipe out any of the inspection stamps or roll marks. I stripped the blue, gave it a light abrasive blast and Parkerized it. It is all correct and now looks the part;
Next is a SIG GSR. I added the arched MSH/Mag well and custom grips by Esmeralda. These are the first grips she did in a tartan...my family tartan with coat of arms;
Next, A 1943 Ithaca slide mated to a new Remsport frame. The frame was a slab side 1911. I milled the relieve 'scallops' to make it an A1, and did the fitting of parts. Most of the small bits are 1943 Ithaca or Colt with a few new ones tossed in.
I also have a Colt Defender but no picture at the moment.
I have not graduated to posting pictures but... A Ruger 1911 was my first. I found a tricked out Colt Race gun in 38 super for a fraction of what someone spent. I fabulously fun RIA 22 TCM I shot today as well as I ever have and last week found a Pointman Major-C with a 17x serial # in fabulous shape. It is getting a pin press fit into the barrel link . I just pressed the BIN on a set of spalted tropical cherry like William's. They will go on the RIA. I am up to 4 1911's and 4 Smiths and don't even collect them. I think I need an intervention. Nah. All is good.

I've never owned or shot a Ruger 1911, I have checked them out pretty thoroughly several times in the LGS's. When they first came out, I thought they were the very best deal going for a new stainless 1911 @$699. I see that the MSRP has gone up, I don't really know if the street price has gone up to match. If I was in the market now for a 1911, I would buy an SR 1911, and plan to eventually put some aftermarket upgrades into it.
$100-200 put into a solid Series 70 1911 (and a little time and learning and fitting) puts you into a great pistol.

If you buy an SR1911 you won't be disappointed Steve. Fit & finish are excellent. Although it doesn't have a match grade barrel it is quite accurate. Due to the apparent quality vs the price I would say it is a best buy in the 1911 market. I don't take my Ruger to the range as often as one of my Dan's but when I do it is a pleasure to shoot. I got a deal on mine. Someone bought it, did the paperwork and then decided to buy a different gun. That made it a used, never fired handgun. The gun shop sold it to me for their cost.
A look at the Spalted Maple grips before the were installed on my R1.
Steve, the Ruger was my first handgun. My brother in law suggested it and I got it for 569$ because of the LE discount he got. He likes it more than his several Kimbers. I very nice trigger. It is presently my bedside gun. With that being said, I think my new Pointman is way nicer. Will see soon. I did have a Ruger Commander but sold it to a friend. I found I was more accurate with a full size and the couple of ounces difference in weight of an all steel commander didn't matter.it was still to large to hide in Florida clothing. Speaking of Ruger , wife and I have two LCP'S, SP101 's in 357, 32 mag and 9mm, a LCRX, a 10/22, and the 1911. And we are happy with them all.

Did the Hardballer have a bit of a "not so great" reputation back in the day? The few I've seen always seemed pretty solid and well made, and I think it was the first true Stainless 1911.
Yes they did. It was kind of hit or miss with some of them. This one worked just fine.
