Hi,
perhaps a little strange (what's not strange about a DWA fan in Germany?), I did not come to .357 Max via silhouette shooting and Dan Wesson, but from an interest in .357 Max to Dan Wesson to silhouette. I would like to get a Contender in .357Max (I heared it was better to get a .357 Magnum one and open up the chamber instead of buying a factory-made .357 Max Contender barrel?), but would as well like to have a carbine in .357 Max.
Apart from T/C Encore, I heared that it was a good solution to get a Ruger No.1 block rifle and/or a Marlin 336 Lever Action carbine (with ratty barrel) and get a custom .357 Max barrel for it.
Anyone else experience with "SuperMag" carbines? What other weapons do you have for .357 Maximum or other SuperMags?
(Please - second, third and other DWA revolvers don't count! 😉 )

I have a 357 Max 10 inch contender barrel and a 357 Max in a Magnum Research Lone Eagle single shot pistols. I don't have a carbine but have you considered a carbine length custom barrel for a Contender or an Encore with a buttstock on the frame? Still only single shot but here in the US much easier than rebarreling a 336 or a Ruger #1.

Sounds like a plan. Got the Encore and Ruger No.1 idea from a site of an owner of one; personally, I'd prefer a block breech to a break-open barrel. I think a .357 Max Contender's a given sometime. (Want to get a custom barrel 150mm in 9mmx25 Mauser Export for a Contender - compared to that, .357 Maximum is common.)
I don't know how hard it is to rebarrel a Ruger No.1; I've heared it was easier than to find a .357 Magnum No.1. As for the 336, I still would like a multi-shot repeating carbine in this calibre; I wonder, what would a Marlin 1894C say to being converted to .357 Remington Maximum?
Hm. Does anyone know the 715 .357 Magnum twist/spin/rifling length (what's the correct term, BTW?) compared to that of a 740 .357 Maximum of the same barrel length?
Plan B would be to look for the longest .357 Max barrel for the 740 available and try to get a grip with a buttstock; the revolver lends itself to it, but LB reminded me handguns with shoulder stocks are illegal in the USA. (All, or is a Mauser C96 or 08 Parabellum or Browning HiPower legal with detachable shoulder stock?)
Frack. I also got offered a DW 15 with 10" barrel and such a grip, but it was very expensive. (1,500€, including 4 barrels altogether, and standard and combat grip as well as a blank grip apart from the shoulder stock. Will post pics when I'm back at work next week.)
Let me rephrase it: What other .357 Max weapons apart from DW do you have?

I didn't actualy mean all handguns with sholder stocks are illegal but there are many restrictions on short barreled rifles and conversions. It takes a room full of lawyers to try and figure out what you can and can't do sometimes.

I did the 357 max lever action research a long time ago-- if I remember right, there is a issue with the length of the internal carrier that cause a problem with a conversion attempt.
Now if a Manufacturer wanted to redesign the internals around the MAX--we'd have a nice shooter.
