Did it again!

A Brazilian Springfield Armory Commander. Previous owner installed an LPA adjustable rear, then couldn't get it to shoot to POA anymore and dumped it.
Aluminum frame, Series 70 type true 1911, except that it has a tapered barrel with no bushing and this funky guiderod:
Replacing this (maybe) and going to get a front sight slot milled for a taller front sight.
This is my "play"1911, got it for under $400, so it's fun with 1911 time.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Cool! Steve I think you are on a roll right now for finding a couple good deals.
I have only had a 1911 for a short time now, but already I like the idea of getting a low budget one to tinker with, the options for 1911s are endless.

I would never tinker with my beloved DW PM1-S, anything it needs outside of cleaning and spring replacement goes to the gunsmith.
This, on the other hand will get new front sight slot milled and something cool up front, standard guide rod, trigger, hammer, flat MSH, slide stop, safety ...
Also thinking about having some fun with Dura Cote (I already have one vote in for black frame, green slide), etc.
But FIRST, just for gits and shiggles, I'm gonna ask the gunsmith what it would cost to get it bobbed, I'm never going to own a DW CBOB, maybe I can "backdoor" a Commander BobTail.

Everyone has to have a tinker 1911... That's a great start though, Steve.
My tinker is one I built from GI MILSURP parts. Bought an Essex frame for about 80 bucks and picked up everything else by trading at gun shows. Shoots pretty welll but has the distinctive GI rattle to it...
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

I got this gun out to the Range today, and I pretty much grabbed the brass ring on this one.
8 yards offhand my best was 7 in 3" with one flier
50' from a rested hold, slow fire was one ragged hole, all 8 inside 2".
I'm really happy with this, and especially to find that if the LPA rear adjustable sight is cranked down as low as it goes, it is actually very close to POA.
The slide is at the gunsmith now to be milled (Novak cut) for a simple white dot front. I went Novak so I can change it out for something else in the future if I want.
Now this is my official "fun" 1911, and I have lot's of fun in mind.
