Here is the little known 2206 with a tensioned barrel bt the way. If it looks thin it's because it is at 5/8" at frame & slide.

I dissagree, it out shoots a K22, will push a 41 hard and all that for 1/3 the price of a 41 wihch is the most accurate mass production 22 made for under $1500 and often shoot with race guns costing two or three times as much.
S&W probably dropped the gun for cost of mfg more then soft sales. At the time S&W had soft sales across the board thanks to Glock and Ruger.
The current 22A is also a very accurate pistol and for average price of $225 is hard to beat unless shooting a Browning or M-41 fore sure. My Ruger shown below can't get close to the 22A with both wearing Millit red dots. The Ruger I have lot of $$$$ in and it's a fun shooter and gets lot of looks at the range, until they see how it shoots compared to the 22A .

No, just standard S&W locking case I got for a coupon in a gun I bought. The 2206 Target was only made one year (97) and the whole series was dropped that year IIRC.
They run about $400 plus or minus $100 currently, and are getting hard to find. Guy on another forum found mine for me at a shop NIB and $400 asking price so I am a proud owner now.
I had the gun at the range with a bag of couple hundred assorted brands (7) and types, HP, LRN, Plated and it never failed till I tried it with the new wood grips and they didn't quite fit correct and the left grip interfeared with the magazine safety. The woodies were bought just for looks and I have two sets of of the optional target grips. The guns were shipped standard with some checkered plastic grips and some were ordered special by gun dealers with target grips, some dealers replace the plastic grips with wood grips that S&W sold for the 422 and 622 or special order with wood grips.
I had only ever seen one of the 422 Target models, a friend had it and it was really accurate and never jammed. But I always out shot him with my Buckmark, he was just a bad shot as I shot the gun and did just as good with it as the Buckmark.

For revolvers I would say the DW 22 & 722 are the best standard prouduction DA/SA revolvers ever made.
There are several others from that era that were as good or maybe better, but they were not a gun for the average man to carry in woods or to go plinking with the kids or grandkids because of expence. A good example of this today from S&W is the 22A & M41 semi-auto's, both good shooters and reliable, one made from cheaper materials with very little had fitting and the other made from best materials and hand fitted.
