My journey to transform this Springfield Champion LW Commander
has begun in earnest. This was a very inexpensive purchase several months ago, inexpensive because the previous owner had put a pretty nice adjustable rear on it without considering the very low front, and couldn't get a good POA/POI. My gunsmith milled the slide and installed a Novak front that made it work. I passed along the grips once they were replaced with some beautiful custom grips from a good friend, and the weird "barbell" guide rod has been replaced with a one piece EGW Stainless guide rod with dual flat wound springs.
Today I started swapping in a Nowlin 3.5# Stainless Commander Match drop-in kit to improve the 7.3# original trigger. The Nowlin parts dropped in and fit well, except for an interference problem with the larger hammer versus the GI grip safety spur. Some reshaping of the the spur is needed to allow the hammer to cock fully and allow the slide to cycle properly, or maybe replace it with a short spur GI grip safety
I did install a (maybe Wilson Combat) stainless flat MSH and an oversized mag release I have had for quite a while, and I need to fit an STI Interchangeable face trigger that has also been kicking around for a while.
Later this spring, when my "gun guy" is home for a few weeks the frame will get refinished (at home via AlumaHyde) in a color TBD. I'll also be fitting a stainless slide stop and extended thumb safety. It started out as a good shooter, all in will be under $700 when it's all done
In spite of a little PITA with the grip safety spur, it's always pretty nice to work on a 1911
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Sounds like a fun tinker project. I'll be interested in how it all turns out. I started many years ago on a somewhat similar path and when I finished the build, gave the gun to the daughter. She loves it because Daddy "made it".
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Sounds like a cool project. I realize you are holding out for a grand reveal once done, but that still doesn't save you from this.
I trust a step by step evolution via photo story will be available once complete.

Wisdom is merely the realization of how little one knows, therefore I am wise.
