Nice one, that's a keeper! When you have both a gun and the holster, it's referred to as a "Rig". You holster might have a year stamped inside on the flap, possibly with the plant name.
P38 factories ere kept secret during the war, you CYQ stands for the factory Spree Werke. production plant; initially a textile mill, was located in Hradek and Nisou (formerly Grottau), Bohemia, Czechoslovakia and called Werk Grottau. Walther made guns were marked AC, and Mausers were SVW. Some have the last to numbers of the year they were made. There was even a plant in France.
"Eagle over 88" Waffenamt inspection mark on frame.Proof
There are a gazillion variations of these guns, grips, for only certain years, bluing quality, and frame & slide production finishing. If you see an AC 41, it is very smooth finish, while many made in 44, productions were very rough with cutting and milling marks.
As a side note, all post war Walther guns in .22LR were produced in France,by Manurhin.
I have had a nice collection of these guns, and I know at least one other member here, Shipwreck, also enjoys these weapons. If you really get into these guns, you should visit the P38 Forum, serious collectors over these. The P38 Forum

Once again, I stand in awe of the specialized knowledge that surfaces from our Members, pretty much out of "left field"!
Well Done
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Nice pick-up. Yet another one I'd like to have someday.
