wdelack's mention of the T/C Contender jogged a memory-I saw my first Remington XP-100 in a long time today. Very hot ticket for long distance pistol shooting.

Anyone ever own one?
Steve
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I also have never shot one. I almost purchased one about 2 years ago and then came to my senses even though I knew it was a scarce custom shop model. I think a .308 recoil would have to be brutal in a single shot handgun.
Thanks for the heads-up on the Saxet show Dusty. My boss just snuck up behind me and wants me to go tomorrow to help him find an AR upper. Were there any at reasonable prices the last time you went? I haven't been since October as I've heard it is like an overpacked sardine can these days. I just as soon avoid going if it will be a waste of time trying to find an AR upper. Any thoughts?

Own one? I own a couple dozen...they are my favorite pistols, and I'm always looking out for more. Some of them are factory, many are custom. Accuracy is outstanding, better than most rifles. Being a silhouette shooter, I've put a lot of rounds through mine, and will never part with any of them. One of my favorite things to do, is outshoot the rifle guys at the range with one of my XP-100s...they really hate that.

IHMSA-I knew that if anyone here had one (some) it had to be you. Your are the long range guru here, without a doubt.

Until the Custom Shop started making them, they all had Nylon stocks, most were brown, fewer were black, which they started making in 1980. The Custom Shop made some very nice wood stocked guns, and you could also get them in laminated wood. After Remington shut down all XP-100 production, they were restarted a couple years later, but these were all repeaters with a McMillan gray rear grip stock.

Here's one of mine. The basic, original .221 Fireball. It has been upgraded with Bomar/Lansing sights. These things are tack-drivers and a lot of fun to shoot.
The originals were highly sought after by silhouette shooters, but mostly to rebarrel them to larger, more potent, cartridges, as the .221 Fireball would not reliably take down the heavy rams at 200 meters. Most of them were scoped for varmint hunting.
Here is a later, Custom Shop XP-100 in .22BR with a heavy 15" barrel.
