I thought I'd hit the range before the next snow storm covers it up again.  I took my Palmer 6" fixed barrel and some 125gn JHP driven by 18.6 gn of 2400. I was impressed with their consistency at 15 yards and they are POTENT!  Apparently the guys shooting next to me didn't share my enthusiasm for those loads big-grin.  After the first shot, the one guy just looks at me like 'what the hell are you shooting'.  To be honest, if I didn't know better, I'd have thought I had a supermag along.  They were stout!  I had no real trouble ejecting the empties and no signs of pressure even though these are on the upper end of Hornady published loads.  Not unpleasant to shoot but very respectable.  I did feel good about my accuracy as everyone else was shooting at pie plates, head targets etc and getting mixed results and not much repeatable accuracy.  I'm pleased with how these grouped.
The target pic is a mix of single and double action off hand at 15 yards.IMAG0506-1.jpgImage Enlarger

I have discovered that most of the shooters on the line these days are NOT familiar with .357 Magnum.

So many of them are shooting 9mm, .40 S&W, .380, .22lr..., they regard .357 with "shock and awe.

I will also never forget the first range visit with my son's .445 SM. Even though it was an outdoor range, we collected a bit of a crowd pretty quickly.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Cool report Scorpio.  I hope to get out with the Dan .44 soon.  Had hopes this Sunday, but other events kept me at home.  Glad you got out to keep us involved.

Nice grouping.  My range is usually not busy and I get it to myself often.  But when others are there, or show up, they immediately stop and then come and look at the Dans.  Depending on the time and how friendly they are, I often let them take one for a spin - and there are always smiles.

Very nice shooting. I have also found you make instant friends out of the annoyed one if you let them shoot some rounds.

Funny about your fellow shooters.  I had the same response last weekend shooting my 715 and 744.  I fired the first cylinder of 357 and the guy next to me asked if i was shooting elephants.  I just smiled and fired a whole box of 357.  Then I fired up the 44, I think he may have soiled himself.  While I was making plenty of noise, it wasn't near as bad as the guy to my left that kept pelting me with .45 shells while I was shooting.  Now that was unnerving and when one went down my collar, just plain painful.

Hey Scorpio,

Double action?  Off hand?

Nice group !  holes to the left, holes to the right, holes high, and holes low.  No adjustments necessary.  Two flyers in the whole bunch (had to be the ammo ).  That looks like a real target.

The guys who show a target with one ragged hole makes me think they were shooting from 15".  I've shot with hundreds of folks, and only two had a single ragged hole.

Now, about that load.  125g with 18g of 2400 does seem stout.  Why the 125g?  I find myself shooting heavy bullets with lighter loads for target and plinking.  That probably started with the Maximum and trying to stop flame cutting.  Is this your normal combo?  and how come?

Fellow shooters at the line do indeed get surprised by wheel gunners.  Many folks today wear defensive blinders.  Defense is the only kind of shooting they do.  Magazines need to hold 30 rounds for them to be comfortable.  I been there.  Didn't like it.  I left.

Old farts, and weird young ones, have felt the rush from sixguns and glass triggers.  Hitting a gong at distance with a handgun is the most fun I have.  And if flame and bang is your thing, revolver cartridges like the 44 and 357 offer enough concussion to get anyone's attention.

Nice range report.  Helps me to remember and be safe with what I'm throwing.  Be it 45  brass hitting people in the head, or that nasty spitting that some revolvers can do.  Be careful, be polite.

I usually prefer 158 grain slugs but I got a batch of 125 JHP for cheap at a show so couldn't pass them up.  I usually load 2400.or H110 mainly because I can get the powder readily and there are many great published loads for many of the calibers I shoot.  I was experimenting with that particular load to see how it ran.  I don't usually load on the high end except for the 375SM as it needs to be driven fast for best accuracy.
