In what was a semi-serious reply to a thread, is now it's own subject:

Who wants to meet @ the NRA Whittington Center this summer to exchange knowledge slap, shooting range-time, and adult beveragesoccasion?

https://www.nrawc.org/

Just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks:

I am thinking a 3-5 day gathering.   Hey it's the Rocky Mountains

Get either Bob Collins, or Kieth Lawton (or a DWF member) as an instructor for 1/2 to a full day of DW smithing classroom instruction to come teach what we're too scared to try alone.......disassemble!    Repair and maintenance tips.

Attendees contribute or cover 100% instructor's travel expenses.

Range Time everyday!

Maybe an off property excursion to Angel Fire, Royal Gorge, or some place?

Notify and invite DW to send some swag?

We might even need an event T-shirt lol

Interested?   Throw some dates out.

Sent an inquiry out the the Whittington already.

North AZ is nice! Flagstaff wound be perfect! You should have it close to a range that has a set up for silhouette shooting. I bet a lot of members may have never shot a silhouette I would love to try it. I'm guessing not too many ranges even have it though! I have a range within 5 miles of my house called Ben Avery shooting range that they still hold the AZ silhouette championship every year but you would never want to shoot there in the summer heat! THat would have to be a February/March outing. At least there would be spring training games to go to also.

Stan has proposed N. AZ.    Sounds like we're all staying @ Stan's House! laugh

I have one extra bedroom and a pull out couch! Of course you all will have to share with mom! LOL! There is a very nice Hampton in Anthem which is 2 miles from the range and I do have a 7 passenger Explorer for going to spring training games! Phoenix is  best visited in March that's for sure before the oven is turned up to broil in the summer! I need to go over to Ben Avery and check out the silhouette shooting next time they have it. It's the largest range in the state with several different shooting ranges including long range rifle, pistol and a state of the art skeet aria all automated. Also horse shooting and a fishing pond. Lake Pleasant is only 5 miles west of the range. Pretty cool place!Screenshot-2025-01-20-5.04.02-PM.pngImage Enlarger

A very nice range.    If you went through the NRA Whittington's site it is world class, complete with 15 ranges for all types of shooting.

https://www.nrawc.org/media/4509/nra-whittington-center_2020.pdf

And although N. AZ would be cheaper accommodations and facility, NRA Whittington has world class storage facility for our guns.

If I take 6-8 guns to the social, I want to come back with them too.   Hampton Inn has no secure storage for my Dans.

No reply yet from NRA Whittington on availability

Shooting targets off horseback is incredible fun. Not every horse can handle it.

Ian Fleming’s take on horses: “dangerous at both ends and uncomfortable in the middle”. I wholeheartedly agree.

The trick, I’m guessing, is to find a horse with a head shaped like a shooting bag (between their ears).  LOL  oh yea, and doesn’t the horse get annoyed wearing ear muffs? lol2
