Went for a visit with Ole Dog today and had a great time. He showed me some of his cool stuff and then we headed to Tony's Sushi, which was fantastic. Then headed to Ron's home range, where his membership had expired, so after renewing his membership, he was allowed to sign me in as a guest. Bought a couple targets and went back to the indoor 25-yard range. Beautifully air conditioned and super ventilation to remove most of the smell of burnt powder.
Started of with the small stuff, a Taurus .380 lightweight revolver for purse carry (yeah, don't ask), which was a very nice shooter, but DAO. Next up was a .32 H&R Mag which had a stout recoil and nice fire ring blowing down-range. Had some experience with bad ammo that split the cases in every cylinder bore, which required a hard push on the Ejector Rod to get the spent cases to extract enough to pull out by hand (wound up being cheap Gun Show reload ammo - Federal factory stuff ran fine). Then a very clean DW Pointman .45 with a nice compensator by EWK that worked great in reducing muzzle flip.
Finally, we got to the fun stuff. First up, my new Model .41 Mag 8-inch, which dealt with the recoil like a 9mm. Then my new Model 40 starting with .38 Special, which was a powder-puff in that heavy large frame, like a .22LR. Went on to .357 Magnum, with no noticeable increase in recoil. Then we got to the .357 Maximum ... holy crap !!!
I was standing 10-feet behind Ron when he let one loose and the skin on my face pushed back like a jet pilot doing a 3G maneuver and the concussion in my chest was a huge Thump! Badder Asser !!!

The shockwave from a SM is QUITE impressive and addicting !!!
Sounds like a great time. Awaiting
SIZE DOES MATTER
That 32 H&R is a Taurus M 731 Ultralite. Sweet. Very accurate for a 17/8"Barrel. Bought it for the wife. Then she found out they made one in 380 with moon clips. So I got her one of them too. Sometimes it is jewelry and sometimes it is a gun. Or a Coach purse. Mostly a gun though. I really owed her because of the Colt Officers Model 1937 vintage with box, screwdriver, brush, tissue paper, unturned and 100% condition that I just won on GB. Actually 100%. Stinger is going to do an autopsy on those 357 maximum. They were no name brand and the recent discussion about guns blowing up worried us. Yet for all the blast and flame it was not as much recoil as a 44 mag with a 4" barrel. IMHO.

Things have really changed in the middle of the state! Guess sushi is getting popular everywhere. I can remember when folks from the middle of the state sounded like they were from Georgia and probably couldn't spell sushi. Also when you could see orange groves on the turnpike for seemingly endless miles.
Sounds like a great day at the range!! I'm with Pete, anxious to see the pics.

Sorry guy's, but we were shooting guns, not taking pics ... although I'd have loved to gotten a shot of the guy holding his hands over his earmuffs when we shot the 357 Maximum !
SM's are an EYE opener and EAR THUMPER, he he he
Like the boy's shooting a 9 w/foam ear plugs w/wife and I first shot my 445,
They gave about 3 double take looks on way out !!

You'll must be thinking of Plant City. They got that accent going on. Ocala is filled with Billionaires and Trillionaires from all over. And humble millionaires. They used to have a world famous restaurant until I retired. I introduced seared ahi to Florida. Actually, there are a lot of country folk here.

I've always liked Ocala, very scenic with the horse farms! One of my all-time favorite places in the state. Had a few relatives in the Lady Lake area for a while, it was always fun to visit.
The thumpers look like fun too! I will remember the origin of seared ahi in Florida for future notice!!

Living near Toledo in Ohio now. Previous residences in Florida include: Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area, Jax, Pensacola, and of course that wonderful experience in Gainesville! We try to visit friends and relatives in the state a few times each year. It's always nice when you are heading south to see the change from the red clay to the abundance of green during Fall-Winter months.

Does that mean you're a Gator ?
Next time you head down to the Sunshine State, let me know and maybe we could all get together for a Meet & Shoot.

Definitely a GATOR! And have been known to associate with numerous members of the Gator Nation on a regular basis including Motown Gator and Greater Columbus (OH) Gator gatherings for those fall events we love so much.
Thank you for the invitation! I look forward to getting together for a Meet & Shoot. I think we have a plan for next Spring Break either in Tarpon Springs or Punta Gorda TBD.
