I had business that took me past the local public range this morning. It was in the upper 30's and breezy so I had the place all to myself! I love it when I'm the only guy there. I started off picking up about 300 rounds of brand new 9mm brass off the ground. I love free range brass, just like the chicken, its good for you . Then I got down to shooting.
I've wanted a 40 cal 1911 for a long time and when this SSC came up at a decent price, I had to grab it. NIB unfired, at least until today! All I can say is WOW! this thing is a shooter right out of the box. The target was at 10 yards off hand. I'm not that great of a shot but this gun made one ragged hole using my 180 gn FMJ reloads.
I also took my Sig P250 also in 40 and shot it as well. I'll post that target below, needless to say I don't shoot it as well as I do the Dan. I used the same ammo from the same distance and you can see the difference.
The only down side to the SSC was trying to find the brass. It ejects cases like no other 1911 I own. I don't know if it has an extra wide ejection port or what but it was tossing brass from where my bag is in the pic all the way into the stones and up the bank to the far right at about 5 o'clock. That's about 12-15'! I got most of the brass back but some if it is forever lost in the weeds I think.
I need to qualify at my gun club to shoot on the new indoor range, 5 shots on an 8.5x11 target from 10 yards, big deal I know but I can say for certain that I will be qualifying with the SSC, it shoots like a dream.

That's crazy that it chucked brass that far! You will need to bring a big net with you next time. I guess it's kinda fair though, since you collected all that 9mm brass beforehand.
Great looking 1911, I'm glad it ran well for you! I like the 40mm round too, I had a friend in the late 90's (before he moved to Montana) who had a Smiff auto in that caliber. I don't remember the gun model, but I did like the way that round performed. I recall when the 40 came out, it was promoted heavily to the police departments...who in turn seemed to develop a love/hate relationship to it. The specifics are very fuzzy these days, but IIRC, most of the "hate" back then was due to the lack of supply of ammo at the time.

This model, the SSC was designed for competition, its got the DW adjustable rear sights, extra large extended mag release and a nice mag well. The grips give great 'purchase' on the pistol, the look a bit like truck bedliner material, not a huge fan of them but they do work well and belong on the gun so they will likely stay put. I'm thinking the brass ejection thing must relate to the gun being set up for competitions, maybe to prevent stovepiping etc. IDK. All I know is after about three mags, I went to police up my brass and had a hard time finding the first piece. I never thought I have to look in the 'rough' from where I was standing. A lot of it was half way up that dirt berm on the right, and behind me.

That range looks familiar. Is that the one out by Carlisle? Has a 300 Yard rifle range?

Outside of Dillsburg, I think the rifle range is only 100 yrs here. It is a standard Game Lands pistol range though. I know there is one by Carlisle too.
