Hey guys! I finally got to take the old Dan out to the range today and boy did we have a good time. I used a standard piece of poster board and placed a Shoot-N-C target right in the middle. I have not mounted a scope on it yet so everything was done with open sights. The wind was whipping pretty good. After setting up, I put the target out at 25 yards. It only took a few clicks of the sight to get it dialed in. After that, all my shots stayed on the paper. My groups were not the best in the world but I was happy with how the 744 was performing. About half way through the session, I noticed that the groups were beginning to open up. I checked the barrel nut and sure enough, it had loosened up a little. I took my barrel nut wrench and tightened it back up. The groups started shrinking again. I then moved the target out to fifty yards. All my shots stayed on the poster board. My groups did open up more (hey, I'm not that good) but I was happy the gun was still launching everything I put through it. I used some old reloads that my dad loaded up years ago. The bullets were 200 grain SWC. However, I have no idea how fast they were running. They must have been scooting pretty good because the recoil and noise were substantial. Lastly, I moved my target out to 100 yards. Now please understand, I’m not used to shooting that far with a handgun and open sights. At that distance and with the wind like it was all I wanted to do was just hit the paper. Well, low and behold, after a little readjustment of the sights, I put three shots on target! Well, I’ll be humble and say my 744 did. I just held on for dear life as the beast launched its rounds down range. At the end of it all, I was grinning from ear to ear! The old Dan did an outstanding job and I can honestly say that I am very proud to once again own one of these magnificent revolvers. Blessings!

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

If a man designed it, and a man built it, then a man can fix it.
