Good Morning Friends,
This is a very preliminary report; I apologize for the lack of pictures, the wind and snow were so bad the targets only lasted minutes before disintegrating or blowing away, the target stands lasted a few minutes longer. There were many failures to go into battery the first hundred rounds, this was to be expected and stated in the firearms literature. The tolerance between the slide and frame is so minimal you must ensure you are pulling straight back to rack, any slight torque or non linear force would cause the slide to bind and hinder operation. The manual recommended high quality synthetic motor oil as lubricant and 500 rounds to complete the break in procedure. After giving up on paper targets we switched to gongs and silhouettes. This is my first 1911 style sidearm and some of the best shooting I have done. I had no problem hitting the four inch gongs consistently and repeatedly at forty yards (I know this is nothing to brag about for you wheel gunners, but it was good for me,) and the two inch goat and bunny silhouettes at 25 yards. I was intermittently having trouble with the gun going into battery, and my buddy suggested that my support hand grip was a little high, causing the slide to fill with my blood and skin, negating the lubricating effects of the oil we had applied. I corrected my hold and experienced no further malfunctions.
The trigger is phenomenal, perhaps an 1/16 of an inch take up then broke crisp and clean with no warning (kind of like the plastic T connectors they use in modern cars for vacuum lines.) I was shooting 200gr. FMJ factory loads and the muzzle rise was considerably less than my Sig P245 with 230gr+P's. Follow up shots were simple and predictable.
This was done at 7,280 feet of altitude, 27º F with moderate snow and 10 mph winds with gusts to 25 mph. I shall post a more complete report with target pictures when the weather permits.
Regards,

I disagree, that is worth bragging, especially given the conditions.
I think if I were to buy a new DW 1911 at my LGS I'd negotiate with them to include the 500 rounds necessary to break in the gun

I thank you Sir, it was a fine day for me. I did get a 20% discount on the ammo, I purchased it with the gun and paid cash for everything. Still.. it does add up, and for that matter has anyone priced synthetic motor oil recently? It is insane, do they make it out of the synthetic dinosaurs from "Jurassic Park" or synthetic unicorns?
