I work with a younger fellow who is around 31 years of age. Not at all into firearms except for his Beretta 9 mm he keeps for home defense. We were having coffee the other day, he told me that just the other day he was told that they don't really shoot turkeys at the local turkey shoot. I just about exploded trying not to laugh out loud. I had no idea how much self control I had until that moment. I told him" No son, they don't shoot live turkeys at the local turkey shoot. The turkey is sometimes the prize for best shooting. Sometimes steaks, hams etc. Oh! All my life I thought they shot turkeys at those events, he said.

Just thought ya'll would get a giggle.

Turkey Shoot, Ham Shoot, Steak Shoot, bottom line is you're shooting and might win something.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Some parts of the country aren't too familiar with 'meat shoots'.  Here in PA there are quite a lot of them, block shoots being the most popular, where the prizes are some form of meat.  I love the guy's literal take on the turkey shoot, LMAO.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Y'all do know there was a time when "turkey shoot" did mean exactly that? The turkeys were in a box with a slit in the top. The shooter would call until a turkey stuck his head up in response to the call and the shooter took his shot. That got stopped due to cruelty to turkeys. I'm not old enough to remember it but Grandpa and Dad sure did.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote.

.... as were pigeon shoots.  Just doesn't happen that way anymore due to the woosification of America.

Sargent York shot at turkeys. I have watched that movie a dozen times at least.
