This is a photo of my 6" 744 with Walther 22lr conversion kit installed. I purchased it many years ago (4/26/1988) after reading an article titled "Bears and Bunnies", with the author and Alaskan native taking rabbits in the morning with the 22 and a nice black bear with the same S&W model 27......That was enough for me to send Gremmel Enterprises in Eugene, Oregon a money order for $95 for the kit....I will show a photo of the complete assembly with barrel and six brass 44/22 adopters in the next post. I never used it for hunting but found CCI 22lr stand. vel. to give acceptable 25yd groups. What I found interesting is that there is the same kit made for a 4" forty four for sale on e-bay selling for close to $400.....

Guys`s, The breech end of the 22 barrel, which is tapered to match the 44`s forcing cone, screws off and 3/4" long. You then slide the 22 barrel down the front of the 44 barrel and with the cylinder open you screw the breech end of the 22 back on and push it forward till the taper stops it. Then put a tapered plastic O-ring over the muzzle end and tighten down a brass lock nut and this is what locks the 22 barrel in place. Its a lot quicker to install then the time it takes to write it.... Then insert a 22lr into the brass shell and place a steel rimfire adopter over 22 and load into the DW 44. If you were able to do the installation you would see its fast and easy.......

I have never seen this before, very interesting. It looks like a well crafted, fairly complicated "Solution looking for a Problem"
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve, 30 years ago (1988) when I bought the unit it was an interesting concept, especially after reading how the Alaskan handgun hunter used the same gun to take rabbits and bear... Those German engineers really know how to design with the close tolerance`s which made it all the more appealing.... The complete unit weighs less the my 2" S&W m-63 but the Smith always goes in my pack while the conversion never accompanied me on a handgun hunt.... Still a unique piece of the past...
