I have one of the Special Collector's Production Run, Number Two (SN 251-500) guns. Mine is #257. I got it off Guns International about 2 years ago. I'll try to post pictures. The gun is unfired, in 99% plus condition, with the faintest of turn rings, hardly visible, otherwise perfect. It has the rosewood grips, pewter medallion, and is complete with the wood presentation case, certificate and two barrel/shroud assemblies, 6" and 8", both in the "dove grey" finish. The lining of the case is the only thing that has any issues, with a couple small stains and a tear in the gold velvet where the hammer rests. I have a few other DW's (SuperMag 357 and 445, 15V, 744VH), but I was thinking about passing this gun on to a true DW collector, who may appreciate it more. I welcome your comments and thank you for your interest. Tom

The case is designed for a 6" barrel on the gun and there is is no extra spot for the 8" in the case, but it is identical to the 6" barrel installed, and has the red front sight insert. I would doubt it was an option for the collector's set, but must have been a special order. I know how to post pictures on GunBroker, is it done the same way here, if anyone can give me tips, it is appreciated, would like to share with the other members. Tom

Tom sent me some pic's, this is very nice with the 2 barrels, but not for me, they had 2 runs of the Dove Grey and I was hoping for the engraved model, I would put the value in the 850.00-1000.00 range on Gunbroker. Nice rare Dan!
Nice Re-Blue on that Model 44 wow that looks NICE!!!

The engraved models were definitely between the 001 & 250 s/n's...no if's and's or buts (nor butt's). Not even a "what if".
The 001 thru 250 is engraved looked like this...
Number 251 thru 500 looked like this. This is #500, for example.
One of the most unique features of the original .44's is the short hammer spur...this feature ended sometime before the long spur change at #10777 (my lowest number shown thus far) shown here...

Here's the engraved model, however, I believe it's located on the planet Pluto where this guy is residing based on the price.

They were made before the regular production run. I think 1980 but maybe 1981. I say made. Maybe released first Dan Wesson had some 44 mags he took around the country showing them off at IHMSA matches. I think he died in late 1978 . They might be serialized experimental. I wonder where they went. There was an experimental 360 sold a number of years ago on Gunbroker. I still kick myself for letting that slip by. My DWAS is showing signs of an acute stage. The wife wants the bedroom back. I may get a whole room to myself. Not to sleep, for the safes.
I too have a Dove Grey, with the light engraving. No sooner had I bought it than a found 2 rosewood grips with pewter medallions. One on eBay and one on Gunbroker. I would be too embarrassed to disclose what I got them for. Did DW ever sell any separately or only make the 500. I think some folk used the Dove guns for Silhouette and put Pachmyers or combat grips on. Hence my 2 extra ones.
