I have tried to upload photos for the last hour and I give up!. I bought this revolver today and the serial number is 000218. It is Dove Grey and factory engraved. I looks like DW made 250 of these and then 250 more that were similar but not engraved. Does anyone know about these DW. Maybe clue me in as to how to upload a photo or two. I've read the FAQ but it isn't working

Welcome to the forum, you bought a nice rare Dan. I think the dove grey ones were the first .44 magnum Dan Wessons made, there are a couple threads somewhere around here that talks about them. A couple members here have them. There was one on Gunbroker recently is that the one you got? It looked very nice.
Somebody will be along here soon to help you with pics, I have been up all night so anything I try to explain right now will come out stupit. Looking forward to some cool pics of it though.

Somehow the photo link button was removed during the site update yesterday, I can't post pictures either. Jody will be along soon to give it a good whack.
In the meantime, there are a couple pics near the bottom of this thread that should look like your gun...
Congrats on your cool find, and to the

Yes, I saw it on gun broker and the great part was that that the owner lives just about 1 mile from my house. I got there before any bids were placed so I was able to buy it from him. I paid $1,000 for it and nothing else came with the gun. The revolver is in excellent condition with great timing. The lockup isn't as tight as I would like but not bad. Thank You for your information!!

Yes, that is very similar to my gun except that mine is Dove Grey in color that is very similar to the large caliber Rugers.

Congrats on landing that one! I was wathcing it and then saw it disappear, I figured somebody local grabbed it. I have one exactly like it, only somebody polished mine or something, other than that, they are the same gun. Mine is number 121. I wish I had the presentation case for it. I've been thinking of having mine lightly bead blasted to restore the original finish. I'll probablly keep it as is though, I like it.

Thanks for the information Scorpio. How is the lockup on yours and do you know the year it was manufactured? I just started collecting DW revolvers and I guess I really got lucky on this find. I haven't shot mine yet but the trigger feels amazing. Do you know how DW did the coloring on this gun? I think he made some others in a satin stainless finish. I'm pretty sure my gun is stainless but it definetly is grey. I wish mine came with the case but I won't complain. Have you shot yours?

I have shot mine, as it was obviously fired by a previous owner(s). Mine locks up nice and tight, about like all my other DW 44s. It is very fun to shoot and is dead on accurate. I'm not planning on making it a regular shooter but maybe every now and then, I'll put a few rounds thru it. I'm not sure on the date of manufacture but there was a paper in the factory styrafoam box that was dated April 1981. I think someone polished my gun at some point in its life, it has a faint luster to it now. I think the factory finish was a bead blasted chrome finish. I've thought about having that done to this gun, but I think it would be best to leave it alone.
We were both lucky to get these guns, especially when you consider the relative few of them that were made. I wonder how many are still in existance? I've seen the presentation boxes on auction sites, but I'm not spending almost $ 300 for a wood box with felt inside.
Enjoy yours and give us a range report if you decide to shoot it.
