Depending on the price, I would have snagged it in a second!
Since there are no definitive production numbers available, most of us are left to speculation & guesswork. Bummer. So my speculative theory is that there were substantially fewer .44 FB's produced than 15-2 FB .357's in most barrel length's. That's according to what I've seen advertised for sale on most web sites I've frequent.
FB's are more of a niche item amongst DW aficionados, due to the fact that the barrels aren't interchangeable like the other models.
Jody has the right idea. However, one rational for converting to interchangable barrel is if you have a 3" or 5" fixed barrel that is able to be converted to interchangable mode. There might be real value created in doing that. Consider the premium that a 3" python goes for in comparison to a 21/2" or 4". Ditto for a 5" er.

Very nice. It looks to be 4". Most of the - 2 fixed barrels are 3,5 or 7", although they did make 4,6,and 8" too.
I have a stainless Palmer 715 3" Barrel Assembly that I don't think was originally on a frame. I suspect they were available from the factory. It does have the slant on the muzzle. I also have a blue Norwich 15-2 3" VH that has no slant. Now I just need a Norwich 15-2 to put it on.

I am a proud new owner of a heavy lug Dan wesson fixed barrel 744 .44mag 6" barrel.
Waiting for it to arrive at my FFL off gun broker.
Originally I had overlooked the fact it had no vents and no barrel nut.
Then i took another look at the pictures and it caught my eye. " Wait wheres the vents ? And theres no barrel nut? ". For a moment I was worried Id gotten a hatchet job aftermarket modified revolver.
Then I searched the forums and realized I stumbled on a rare version of the DW 744.
Can't wait to get her in my paws. A Palmer original.

Zebras were available with large frame up to CZ ownership, when the only offering was a 715. Those finger grip zebras are probably made by LB. If so, they will have LB burned on the inside.
You were right , LB burned into the zebra wood
