There is very little knowledge of factory engraving beyond the mention in some older catalogs of 1/4,1/2, 3/4 and full coverage being offered. I have a 15-2 that I think is the factory 1/2 coverage. It comes in a clear Plexiglass case. The engraving is deep and scroll like. There were many commorative guns offered by historical societies including with gold leaf. They do not seem to be highly regarded as collectables, probably because of the tacky motifs IMHO. That being said, the workmanship is first class and most are still ANIB. Most are 44 mag. 15-2s are quite rare . Pistol packs are even rarer. I cannot tell from the photos on my phone if the engraving seems to be factory, a Historical Society offering or a custom aftermarket job. I suspect the answer may be on the case. Custom being the operative word. Nothing I have said can construed as authoritive. I am sure more knowledgeable folk will chime in.

As already noted, DW did offer "factory" engraving, and we don't often see engraved 15-2's. Yours is really beautiful, and could possibly be original factory work, it is clearly a presentation set of some kind. You might check our Serial Number Registry to get a "born on" date, or PM me with the S/N for more info.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

My two cents...
The engraving I can see seems to be very uniform, and not gaudy. The "not gaudy" part is hard to find, honestly. Judging from the craftsmanship & uniformity shown, I really think the work there could be easily spotted amongst the engraver guys currently doing the craft.
Try asking these guys...
Please let us know what becomes of this! 🙂
