Hey, guys.
This started as a wtb a grip thread, where I met some NEW really nice folks, and has morphed into a build thread, for hopefully a couple of pics.
As a little background, I am in Massachusetts, so I had to find a bare frame (Dans aren't on the list of "acceptable" sidearms) - but I now have one, and almost all of the pieces that I need.
Sooooo ... I bought a frame, with grip and cylinder, and put it together. I have a set of shrouds I am making from EWK stock. I have borrowed the 4"er from the set, and I like the look, but the grip lines look a little out of place.
(p.s. Eric, I am glad you have new shrouds on the way, I need another one).
I met more nice folks in the wtb section here, and with the dark green on light brown color scheme in mind, I like the pachmayr lines. Thanks Kenn!
Step one complete!
(On a legal note, once the cylinder can close, and the shroud is drilled to slide on all the way, then it is considered "built" and has to be registered online with the state.)
Have you ever noticed that 3+5+7 is GREATER than 9+1+1 ? .

Ok, so this borrowed pic of a Coyote frame and odg cylinder is as close as I can come to showing what I want for this "little guy".
Of course, it'll be 'way more cool' on my *DAN*! 😀
I think I previously called it "a bulldog on my belt", so that is the 'mission statement' for this build.
Paint is on the way.
Desert Warrior Dark Earth (darker than tact. coyote. Perfect.)
Tactical O.D. green is already here, and darker than the normal one (perfect).
Step 2 almost completed. (I guess Step 3 is the drill press)
thanks guys, later.

Heh! (smirk) I do a little math from time to time...
(my colors will be a little darker, and I want the cylinder and shroud to have that dark green steel "running forward".) It will have a darker visual feel, hopefully blending in closer to the black grip.
My ONLY hesitancy, is that the scratches on the bluing are not as bad "in real life", as they were when I was bidding! I ALMOST feel bad painting over another beautiful Monson bluing job, even if it is scratched up a lot.
(To argue from the other corner, I have two beautiful blued frames, and I really want a beat-it-up, paint it n wear it, shoot it and shoot it some more, daily carry type "Tacticool" Dan ... sorry for the use of the "T" word.)
The whole front end will be brand new, I should be able to shoot BRICKS of reloads through this for decades to come.
If I can get the alignment pin located and drilled this weekend, I can test paint on the shroud!

Have some fun, and get your gun set up the way you want it, and enjoy it.
If Daniel B. thought they were only to look at, he'd have put a picture hook on it instead of a cylinder latch
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

pics this weekend, when i paint the cylinder to match.
frame will be dark tac. coyote, next week.
and, yes, the cart is put before the horse on this one. i painted it before i cut the ejector rod groove.
time to find out how resilient this finish IS!

Hopefully I pick up a motorcycle this weekend, BUT, with a LONG WEEKEND, I should have time to get the cylinder done, too. Degreasing the frame is a longer term project, I believe. Next week for that one.
(Maybe I can start an acetone bath on the cylinder now) uhhh, I'm going to go start that NOW! Later!
(As for the KLR, I am thinking the same color scheme)

Sort of. If you read the directions, you should let it sit for a week or so. I did not. I installed it and pulled the trigger after a half hour. (And THEN I said "oops")
no worries, this is all to learn as much as possible. So, just like I drink beer I brew right away (to tell how it tastes better when you let it sit a month), I am planning on scuffing and recoating. I bought a lot of dura!
Also, to be fair, I painted this in a dirty woodworking shop, just inside a Tupperware bin. First ar lower test I even used a brush, and let the bristles dry in the paint. THAT is going to tell me how durable the coating is, cause I know how easy it is to sand off bristles in latex.
edit: in looking at it again, that might even be a missed spot, and the 'ring' is showing a little, I was painting in a dark corner, near the fan.
