I am looking for any accurate data to load some Cast Performance 41 mag bullets in either the 41 Magnum or the 414 SM. They are 250 or 260 grain lead. I'll have to check the exact weight. All the manuals I have stop at 220 grain jacketed. I read on the net somewhere a long time ago that DJ Bushman had some heavier 41 loads worked up, but have never seen the data. Any help?

When I ran out of the 270 grainers, I used the same load with the 245 grain Leadhead cast with good results. The problem I found with the 270 grain bullet is the twist rate for the .41 Magnum was too slow to stabilize it. It shot ok out to 100 meters, but fell apart at the 200 meter line. If you have a faster twist, it would be ok.
I imagine 13-14 grains would be a good starting point. For the .414SM, I haven't tried the heavy cast yet.
I'm guessing a steady diet of 250 grain cast .41 Magnums would not be good for a Smith...IF they would stabilize. Don't have any idea of their twist rates.

Good morning
I would not load my S&M 57 with any load over 240. I shot Steel back when the S&W57 were made . Only saw one m57 on line. But the m29 (44mags) were present and going to pieces with hot heavy bullet loads.
This does not mean you could NEVER (should) shoot the m57 with a heavy boolit (csat).
I sort of view it like the main gun on the M60A1 tank (my tank 71-74). A new main gun had a "wear factor" of 500. Every LOW power practice round, HEAT rund or HEP round had a wear factor of 1/2. BUT the Super High Velocity (high Pressure) SABOT round had a wear factor of 2. Hep = high explosive plastic HEAT = uigh explosive anti tank .
The M-57 was made for "Normal" shooting of FACTORY ammo. 220 grain- was all there was. Smith knew there was a wear factor. Most shooters would NEVER reach it. Steel shooters do in just a few months. Reloaders move along pretty well also but generally mild PRACTICE stuff. But start laoding Full power Heavy lead and the S&W is going to start coming loose. Any revolver will. It is just how mush steel was manufactured into the system and HOW well was it designed and made.
That si why the Dam Large Frame takes thePressure pounding. But even a Dan will "Factor" out eventually.
