I have a 7414 SM. Do you guys run the cylinder/barrel gap clearance really tight? Like 0.001"? This has probably been discussed multiple times on this forum. I read an early article on the 414 and the writer/shooter ran his clearance tight. The stock dimension feeler is 0.006". Seems a little loose to me. Good reasons for tight clearance include increased bullet velocity and lower gas leakage out the sides. Also, the shorter distance for the cylinder to travel before contacting the back of the barrel during the recoil impulse allows for less hammering of the front of the cylinder. Perhaps DW recommended .006 clearance to allow for some fouling to not tie things up. Seems like as long as I can rotate the cylinder, tighter would be better. Casull holds tight machining tolerances on their guns, as does DW and runs the gap pretty tight...like 1.5 thou, I think. Comments and words of wisdom appreciated.

To my knowledge all the Supermags are to be set at .002 except the 375SM which the manufacturer recommend the .006 gap setting. All my Supermags are set at near or around these dimensions. One of my Monson 357SM's has an uneven cylinder face which requires me to set it at about .0035 in order to rotate the cylinder freely after about two cylinders full have been fired.
