I'm still very new to the forum and DWs, so forgive me if I use the wrong name for any internal parts.
I recently picked up a new to me Moson 44 and was able to test it out with 44spl last night. I noticed that with the crane closed and fully latched I was able to rotate the cylinder backwards (counterclockwise) and it freaked me out pretty bad. It would not spin forward (clockwise), and at full lock up (unload, close cylinder and index, cock hammer, pull trigger and hold, ease hammer forward) the cylinder was solid and wouldn’t rotate either direction.
After reading the large frame tutorial and watching a video linked from here, I was able to gather the courage to take it apart to check for gunk.
Everything was very clean and there wasn’t anything causing the bolt to bind or preventing it from raising fully into a notch in the cylinder. I gently opened the hand spring slightly to apply more pressure to the connector and hand. After wiping everything down and very lightly oiling, I reassembled the revolver. Huge thanks to whomever shared the thread trick!
The cylinder no longer spins counterclockwise while closed, at least not with the same light pressure I was applying yesterday. I've ordered the large spring kit from CZ and will replace the ones I’m comfortable with when they come in.
The issue I’m stuck on now is that when it was disassembled, with the crane lock removed, the crane wouldn’t slide out of the frame. I’ve been searching here and googling but haven’t found anyone else with this issue. Supposedly with the crane lock out, the crane will just slide out of the frame but mine will not. It seems like the end of the crane that the crane lock interfaces with, is too large to fit through the hole in the frame.
I noticed some burrs in the metal of the frame (inside the frame on top of the hole the crane goes through). I can take pictures when I disassemble again to replace springs if that would be helpful.
Mostly just wondering if anyone else has encountered a difficult to remove crane or heard of the hole in the frame that the crane goes through being deformed. I don’t think it will be issue with functionality, but am concerned that it won’t come out and that not being able to fully disassemble may be an issue in the future.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have built small frame guns from bare frame and parts but haven't taken a large or Supermag apart yet. You are right, the cylinder should slide off with the cylinder lock removed. I suggest you send it back to DW and while there get new springs, a factory trigger job and have them check it out otherwise.

Thanks very much for the reply! I think that’s probably the best course of action, and am reassured to have it suggested by someone who’s been around here for so long.
In my searching I haven’t found many posts with feedback on CZ era DW repairs newer than 2013 or 2015. The 4 hour time difference will make calling a pre-lunch affair, but I’ll feel much better if it comes back from the manufacturer with a clean bill of health. Probably call tomorrow and ship it east along with the spring pack I just ordered after that comes in.
I’m hoping it makes it back to me in time for hiking season since that’s the reason I picked it up.
Going back to a smith would be such a drag after handling this beauty

Just curious from this, where are you geographically? Your profile is vague.

I'll speculate Alaska, London is too far at 5 hours.
Winner! The frigid north.
Hawaii is -5 or -6 depending on wether or not it’s daylight savings.

So being in the frigid north, are you dealing with any serious thaw just yet? In my area, we are bracing for potential flooding soon.
Not even close. Above freezing during the day and below at night. It’s been snowing off and on all week, and I’m in the “South East”! The interior has a ways to go yet…
Probably won’t see above freezing over-night until May.

After sending it in to the shop two weeks ago I got the call today. Keith told me he found and removed a burr on the crane leg that was preventing the crane from being removed from the frame but said my springs looked good. After explaining the reason for my spring replacement request (bolt issue) he looked at it again and said he was able to replicate the issue. After some bolt tuning and one forty five smackers, it’s on its way back home.
Great communication from both Genny and Keith at the Dan Wesson shop. Very excited to get it back on the range and try out these spicy buffalo bore 340 grains that are too hot for the smiths to stomach.
