So I stripped this with some formbys refinisher and some steel wool. Then began to apply formbys tung oil (its not pure its a mix) and fine steel wool between. Not sure I like the color, going to try it on the gun when it dries again. Thinking I should have stained or put some boiled linseed oil on it first to darken it up.

Man, if that grip looks as good as it does in the picture I wouldn't change a thing. Absolutely beautiful.

Well here it is! Over a dozen coats or Formbys tung oil with fine steel wool in between and looks pretty good. The DW emblems (after some fresh matte black and 400 grit to freshen up the brass) also look great and popped back into their holes.

Nice job!  It looks really good.  I've done quite a few refinishes myself and some come out better than others depending on the grain of the wood and the time put into it.  As yours, each one gets at least 10 coats but I use a poly finish.  Every once in a while one comes out exceptional  - much better than the original factory finish.

Fine job. Try putting it in strong sunlight for a while. Rotate it. Sunlight will darken wood.

Excellent work. I like the lighter wood finish…….great contrast to the deep blue.

Thanks you all for the kind words. I wire brushed the DW medalions to get the old loose paint out then shot them with some matte black. Once it was dry I ran it over some 400 grit paper, bam..

Great job. The attention to detail is what really shows.
