I have a monson built 44 vh 6"and also a 10" tube for silywet shooting. At the end of last shooting season I noticed that I could just push the cylinder open without depressing the crane release! I checked the mating surfaces between the crane and frame and could not see any obstructions there and I also gave the "lock cut" a real close look and cleaning but the trouble remains ? I do not shoot exceptionaly heavy loads from this pistol ( no hard extraction ) All loads are loading manual max listed loads or lighter . Any help is apreciated .

I had this problem once, the crane latch part #24 was not going
up into the "lock cut" completely and I could push cylinder open. You will
need to file and fit the back inner latch so it can raise higer into the "lock cut"

You can check if this is a latch fitting problem by marking the crane with a
pencil at the latch to crane position while cylinder is out/open, then
close cylinder in the frame and see if latch raised to the mark you made.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like the spring on the cyl latch is weak or failed.
I'd say that this pretty likely. If that "U" shaped spring breaks, or the spring or the pocket it rests in gets gummed up, you don't get the force needed to hold the latch in place. Easy to check, remove #23 screw with very small screwdriver to remove the latch.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks for the help/sugestions. I pulled the crane release out and gave it ( the spring ) a good looking over. In my oppinion the spring does not have the requiered force to hold the latch "up" And I'll save you the trouble by saying that loading shells with Viagra will not help! Is there any chance that someone would have a spare spring that they would be willing to part with ? CZ will not ship ANYTHING to Canada so if I cannot find the proper ( or suitable substitute ) I will likely have to park the wheelgun for the time being. Thanks for all your help !

Check with Eric at EWK Arms (right sidebar), he may have something suitable for a Large Frame. If there is any issue with him shipping to you, PM me for assistance

Why is it so hard to get common parts shipped to Canada? Is it that hard to get stuff shipped to the U.S. from Canada? I know food goes both ways all the time. I can see problems going overseas, but Canada?
Blaser, you may have to hop a flight to Ohio and hand carry the part back with you.

Have you checked with CZ-USA/Dan Wesson about the spring? Their parts list has a latch spring listed for $3.95, but I do not know if they have the part in inventory.
When you call them, be sure to inquire about whether it's legal to ship the part internationally; U.S. and/or Canada laws may restrict such shipments. If it's legal to ship internationally, but CZ-USA/Dan Wesson will not ship it to you, I'll be happy to purchase it and send it to you and you can reimburse me later.

Yep , the small and large frame use the same latch and spring.
The whole gun parts thing will get you on the paper work and don't
think CZ/DW will help you.
I have shipped and received to Canada before and if you need that
handle spring and faucet nut for your kitchen Moen faucet I
can get it there.

Yup a ball point pen spring and a Moen faucet nut would make my life much easier. Canadian laws are not the roblem! It is the US state dept. I ordered and received parts for a 1911a1 from Brownells no problem, However with them I also received a letter from the state dept. that informed me that I was the end user and the parts ( even though sold to me ) were not mine alone !!! If I want to sell them either new in the package or once instaled in my gun I was to have written permition from your uncle sam prior to doing so! PM me with any helpfull sugestions. Thanks again for your ideas and help.

The issue of a manufacturer/retailer shipping to Canada is much different than some guy sending miscellaneous non specific small parts to a friend.

How in the heck did you ever get to buy a U.S. made gun up there then? If its this hard to get a spring across the border, how do compaines manage to export complete ready to shoot guns? This is almost insane. I mean car companies build components on both sides of the boarder and ship them across for final assembly, think Ford and the 351 Windsor (Ontario).
Is this why foreign firearms companies have factgories here? Like Beretta, SIG, CZ?

Not impossible just VERY cost prohibitive! 1 or 10 000 pc of brass is a $250.00 export fee ! gun parts (from a willing vendor) under $100.00 and not needed for the firing control of a firearm are ok, no bbl receiver bolts etc. Over $500.00 and the vendor needs to have a export licence that costs upward of ( so I have been told ) $10.000 dollars a year . And not only that the paperwork is based on the prior years exports, The better year you have this year will come around and bite you when it comes time to renew . I imported a TC barrell last year and tried to do another this fall , Problem was the co. had submitted their sales info for their renewal and the cost was just about a quarter mil !!! Needless to say that Co. let it lapse and no longer provides this service.
