I have two brands of casings in .445sm, i prefere the Starline over the Gates as the Gates tend to get stuck in the drum when i use medium to heavy loads.
I think some earlier owner used regular 44m casings, never undertood why ppl buy big guns and use wimp loads.
Is there more brands in .445 caliber and what experience do you have with them?

what ya'll think of cutting winchester 30-40 krag cases off and using them? they seem real beefy and i come across them easier than ordering starline. and i think it adds a nice personal touch also. but i see midway has brass in starline.....so i could order.
i have cases of federal large rifle match primers and remmy regular large rifle ones. (got 'em before the obamism started) thinking i'll use remmy large rifle? save my match stuff for my long range "sticks"

I have no experience with forming brass for the 445 either. I use Starline and it's good stuff. There was a post on another site about making 30-40 brass into 445 brass and a very knowledgable fellow wrote this.
You must trim, expand, turn the rims down(lathe) AND ream the inner diameter of the trimmed case necks in order to make the cases from 30-40 Krag cases. This is something I did in the distant past, because the IHMSA brass dried up and Starline was not making cases at the time. I really recommend that you purchase the cases from Starline. Great quality and service, unless of course you have the time, tools, and inclination to make your own from the Krag brass. My 2 cents.

i was all ok with using krag brass till i noticed the rim size was considerably larger. the rest of process is ok. I'm not chucking and turning 50 rims down. I'll spring for the starline and see if i can re-sell my krags at the show next week.
tnx all.
