Worked up some plinkin loads today with Trail Boss + 240 gr. SWCTL boolits. I used the full length 445 case so as to get away from using 44 mag or 44 spl. brass. A load of 8 grs Trail Boss fills the big 445 case bout 3/4 full...this is some bulky powder fellas...designed for cast boolits. 8 grs was giving 830 FPS outta my 8'' Dan... 10 grs was giving 950 FPS. Shootin these loads off-hand at 20 yrds shows promise...will at later date put my Burris 2-7 power scope and tweak these loads at 50 yrds. Just wished this powder was same price as other powders. Useing 10 grs per load ya only get a little over 350 shots per 9 oz jug. @ $14.99...so figure $30 a #. Goods points are it fills the case + it is very clean burning even with cast Boolits ! Try some.

I would be interested to see the outcome from that bulky powder. When you mention 8-10 grains that worried me. Too much dead space in the brass would push the pressure limits to a critical level. The powder you're using seems to fill the void there. It looks like those Styrofoam peanuts in packaging. It doesn't look like you need a filler for that either. i would like to try that.
Have you shot the 240 gr XTP with 33 gr of H110? If so what speed did you get out of that? And what kind of accuracy did you end up with? Take care.

I have used Trail Boss for practice loads in the 475 Linebaugh also, works great at filling the case for these. I'll have to try some in the SM too. The stuff looks like a miniature breakfast cereal was what my thought was when i first looked at it..

Waderman if you have any 445 loads you can share please do. I would like to try some different loads.
I have wondered if you could use black powder with a filler in the 445. That smoke report would turn some heads at the range. I would start out with 35 gr. of black powder. I know guys that shoot the 45 long colt with black powder like the old cowboy guns and also shoot smokeless powder in them too. I need a new video camera to film something like that.
