OK guys I was asked a question and felt I should check the brain trust before answering.

What will be the period correct medallion for a model 14 ( no dash) pork chop?

I'm thinking no medallion, but with Dan's just when I think I know something I am wrong.

The model 14 and 14-1 were porkchop versions. The 14-2 has the modern shroud. The pictures I've seen of them had grips that were checkered without a DW medallion. Good question. Maybe someone can shed some light on this subject.

pokeHarly, that is a high standard grip on that Dan!  The earlies were not adorned with with medallions.  At least what what I have seen in early pacs and on guns.  I think these started with the -2's!poke

As is often the case, my opinion is simply that, my opinion...not fact as of yet, so take it as you may.wink Here is what I'm 90% certain of as of today;

A model 14 (no dash) will have no medallions.

I'm pretty sure that the first medallions appeared on the plastic "Powerwood" grips. The larger brass medallions didn't come along until the 15-2's, around 1978, or maybe mid~late '77.

I don't recall the exact time period that the Powerwood grips were offered, but I think it was around the area of '74 ~ '75. That info is in some of the magazine articles on the DWCA.

BTW, the wood look to the Powerwood grip I have is really amazing, I had to really do a double-take when I first got it, to determine that it is in fact not wood.

It would be tough to break up that pair, especially since their s/n's are only about about 8 numbers apart from each other.smile
