I was shooting some of my 445sm loads yesterday and was reminded of something very important. Temperature sensitivity (I was using W296 in this case)

Fired a dozen, all was fine. Took a short break then fired off the next 6. EXTREMELY difficult ejection and the flattest primers I've ever seen.

I realized I had left my ammo in the sun, so it heated up very quickly.

Excess pressure due to temp doesn't just happen when it's hot. Work up a load in cold weather and you may be fine. Shoot the same load when it warms up a little, you could be putting yourself in a bad spot.

DW's are strong, but everything can fail. Some powders are more sensitive than others, but it's never a good idea to leave your ammo in the sun. Reduce your "cold weather" loads when it warms up and work them up from there.

Hope is not a course of action

Great reminder. We all forget things from time to time, especially when it's familiar stuff. Glad there were no catastrophes.

This is good information!  As a relative newbie to reloading I had never thought of this, thanks for sharing!

I would never have considered the possibility of something like this.

One more reason that I surround myself with people smarter that me

And "people smarter than me" is pretty much ALL OF YOU!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I started reloading in 1991 and I've still have never given a thought to this.  You are never too old to learn something new.  Thank you for sharing this great piece of info.

Boyle's Law (I think) says that pressure will vary directly with temperature.  So the hotter it gets, the higher the pressures.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
