Was looking in the Rare, Unique and Unusual DW's section and saw the Fixed Barrel revolver with the ports / slots behind the sight.
Has anybody done similar machining to their revolver barrels to make their own porting? Or done any type of other porting like Magna Port or the holes like Gemini Custom offers?
I have a fixed barrel 3" DW that I am doing a little work to and thought the 2 slots behind the sight would look pretty neat and be a functional upgrade.
I even did a little mock-up in Paint to see what it would look like, and I kinda like it.

That looks cool but would be a problem to accomplish. You would have to shorten the barrel to about 1 or 1-1/2 inches and then devise a way to put a barrel nut on it to secure it to the shroud. Then you would have to add a cap to the front of the shroud to complete the expansion chamber.
It doesn't seem to me that it would accomplish much other than the look. It may well cause a reduction in accuracy because 1 or 1-1/2 inches of barrel isn't going to put much spin on the bullett.

Mike,
My revolver is a fixed barrel, so I wouldn't have any barrel nut to worry about or how to keep the shroud in place.
I was thinking more along the lines of just putting the ports in like the way Magnaported pistols are, no expansion chamber for the gases. Probably wouldn't be as effective though.
I could bore out the end and thread it for a custom cap, not an issues as I work in a machine shop and can do little projects after work. The problem still remains though that my barrel would go from 3" to 1 3/4" or whatever is left after boring it out.

Well, Now that I know it's a fixed barrel, you could do exactly as Magna-Port does by just cutting through both the shroud and the barrel. You wouldn't have to shorten the actual barrel.
The only concern I would then have is: would having the ports so close to the cylinder due to the short barrel cause accuracy issues. I'm not any kind of an engineer so I wouldn't know.
Sounds like a cool project.

Magna Porting on a DW interchangeable barrel is a little "iffy". For the ports to work you need to fill the empty space indside the shroud and outside the barrel before much of anything vents to the ports (the path of least resistance). This would not be as much of a factor on a FB gun, obviously.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
