After how well the 8vh shroud for my 445 AGS turned out, I'm seriously considering getting my 44 refinished.

The current blued finish is starting to get a little rough with a bunch of scratches, a few minor gouges, and some light corrosion. It's been a great woods gun, and I plan on continuing to carry it. I don't want to see the finish get any worse and start pitting the metal.

I'm thinking of having my local shop Cerakote it. I could go graphite black and have an "AGS light", but I'm leaning more towards titanium (a medium to light gray) or burnt bronze (a brownish copper color)

I only have 1 "pretty" gun, and this isn't it. I'm more concerned about protecting the metal, but also doing something unique at the same time.

Rebluing is an option, but it's not going to be cheap, and I'll continue to run into the same issue. Cerakote isn't armor, but in my experience it's a whole lot more durable.

What sayeth the forum? Any other color suggestions?

Heck, I don't blame you one bit! I have pretty guns and guns that I carry every minute I am awake. Personally, I love the Cerakote option and adore the titanium finish actually. To me, it looks like a satin nickel but tough as nails! I get the blue thing...you'll be right back at the shop in two years or less.

Best of luck to you with your decision!

I agree.  Get it coated.  That's why all of mine are stainless.  I hate it when the finish gets all fouled up.

C'mon Mike, admit it. Just like the rest of us stainless addicts, you are easily distracted by bright shiny stuff!big-grin

I vote coat it Andrew.goodluck

I spy a few DW's in herecool

Cerakote revolver gallery

Burnt bronze is my frontrunner, but titanium, sniper gray, and SOCOM blue are all close behind.

Decisions, decisions...

Hmm... I've got a "hunting" 740 and if I were to get it coated, I'd have to go with the Magpul Dark Earth.  Not one of your choices but I have a Para 45 in coyote brown and it looks nice.  SOCOM Blue is a good one.

Well I am more of a traditional guy so I would like the SOCOM blue. But if it is a hunting rig, I really do like the Magpul FDE and Barrett Bronze. Do the hammer and trigger in SOCOM like the pic, they add neat contrast with the rubber grip.

Dropped it off at the shop this afternoon. Burnt bronze it is!

I'll post pics when it's done (probably early next week)

I know a little bit about this shop, it's rapidly becoming a pretty important "player" in the local shooting scene, and the local "shooting scene" is a very close neighbor to Camp Lejeune. It's about a mile from his apartment!!!

freerider + a top line LGS + quality gunsmithing?

OMG!!!!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I come to appreciate the value of a Satin finished blued gun. Much more forgiving than highly polished blue.

I can't believe no one suggested this one!

You would be the talk of the range or hunt camp with this one!

Forgot to drop my trigger guard off with everything else (bone head move) and changed my mind to sniper gray. Burnt bronze won't be in till the week after next, and I have a better plan for that color (Beretta M9)

Plus I saw sniper gray in person, and it's looks like the better choice for a big herkin revolver

Great choice, it will look great! By the way I checked the link and saw the poor Dan below. There were a few others in the same taste but this one is probably the winner. The man who did this should be tracked down by DWForum members or by people with eyes and receive a really heavy punishment!

After seeing the pink and yellow guns, I am even more steadfast in my support of Capital Punishment

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Gun came back from the shop today. I ended up going with sniper gray after hearing about the wait for burnt bronze, and deciding it would either look too "bling" or look like a poo.

Finish looks awesome. When I get it together, I'll post pictures. I'm sick right now, so it may be a day or two.

Now if I can just find a 4" (or even an AGS) barrel assembly and get it coated to match...
