I watched the segment on 60 minutes last night about the shortage of ammo. I knew things were getting tight but I thought the price would just go up. I got up and checked my supply of small pistol primers and noted that I was down to 300 mag and 1,100 standard .
I got on the net to check a couple of suppliers and saw that these were priced up to $30 a 1,000! I paid $15 the last time I got three bricks. Not only that, everyone was out of stock!
We may need to start a post for posting when"in stocks" and "good deals" pop up so we all can take advantage. I am good on bullets along with powder and brass for now, but the primer situation is a little disconcerning!

Palo,
Last fall it seemed to be that way locally with large rifle primers, used for Supermag rounds. Now the others seem to have fallen into the same category. It seems very hit and miss at gun shows too what you can find. We are at an odd time in shooting sports and reloading I believe.

We all need to be vigilant and post when we see an opportunity. I know that there are alot of people hoarding both guns and ammo right now. I personally am going to be more conservative with my centerfire supplies. I haven't seen any issues with .22LR as of yet, but who knows, that might be next!

I will keep an eye out & post up on any finds I may run across.
Tom Gresham said the other day that normally folks might buy enough supplies to last them a year...only lately, they are buying enough to last 10 years! It's a nationwide problem.
As I was standing at the ammo booth during last weekend's gun show, I noticed a pallet of ammo, with maybe 12 cases of primers sitting on top. I tried to buy a case, but the guy said that whole pallet had already been sold. Yeesh.

Well if mid-term elections go bad for the Democrat's some people will be holding some high priced ammo and reloading materials.
However if the Dem's hold on or gain any seats then we are all in big trouble.

The ammo shortage really came home for me yesterday when I was in a local shop that sold out it's last 9mm OF ANY KIND, and did not know when there would be more. Truthfully, this guy does not display or sell a lot of ammo, but no 9mm? Local Walmarts have no ammo of any kind, and some look like they are taking out the display shelves entirely. On AR15.com New England Hometown, guys have been posting Walmart local ammo sightings for a couple weeks. I now have custody of all my son's guns, ammo (easily 10,000 rounds of .22lr as well as a fair amount of .223, all of which he told me to shoot off), and progressive reloading press, so maybe I'm starting reloading again.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'm curious as to what they said, too.
A couple weeks ago, there was a 60 Minutes type of show doing some sort of gun story. I paused for a few minutes, to see what they were saying. They were asking some instructor about how much the role of gun defense training plays in real world situations...had a classroom full of students & some gunman ran in & started shooting. They kept focusing on the people who froze & were eventually "shot", instead of the ones that shot back.
I tuned out a minute later,. when they showed hidden cameras in a room full of small kids, who had found some "hidden" guns...and what they were doing with those guns, with no parents in the room. I could see exactly where that story was going. "It's all the gun's fault"
Gun show this W/E in Ohio was a wake up call... Good price on 1000 158gn JSP's for $120.00.....NO 357 BRASS...250 38 Spec. BRASS went for $12.50..( N/Plated)..Small P/Primers..far and few between..one gentleman wanted $200.00 per 1000..I almost started laughing at the guy. Took his card to make sure I don't stop by his booth again..Looks like I will be loading up a Midway order when the primes are available..FFF in Ashland can't keep anything on the shelf....This sound right to you guys..?

Yep, sounds about right.
I think if we be patient, the ammo supply will start coming back here in another few months. It can only go on like this for so long, before all the hoarders decide they REALLY have enough to last them. Demand will decrease, the manufactureres will catch up & we'll finally see some sanity come back...
...
...then the administration will do something lame, like pass an ammo imprint bill & it will start all over again.

If we let them pass an imprint bill, we are all SOL, unless you have your own property to shoot on and plenty of cases, powder and primers. The rest of us will have to turn in our ammo for the new stuff and the bill that proposes the imprint also outlaws semi-auto's and adds a 5 cent tax on each cartridge. Boo, Hiss.

It is very sad that I have to limit my kids to 1 box of 38, 5 boxes of 22, and 500 rounds of shotgun shells a week. At our gun show this week ammo, and primers were un seen, I really wanted to get 20,000 209 primers, but they were not their. I'm glad that I have a year supply of 209 primers, at least we can have fun for a year. I think we need to post on the forum who has ammo, and supply. I would really like my kids to grow up shooting, rather that watching TV, vedo games, or drinking.
Thanks, Pikepoola1racer

I think we are all in agreement that we should keep each other aware of where we can buy supplies. I have noticed that several vendors will not accept orders on out of stock, back ordered items such as primers. Unfortunately we are our own worst enemy, for example I have asked my wife to check the supply of .22LR's at Walmart EVERY time she goes to the store, AND BUY! Still, with the newly elected president and the fear of his libreral views on the 2nd amendment, it is hard to swallow that there is not another underlying dark force involved here such as very rich left wing groups buying up everything that is available.
At any rate, please, let me know of any supply outlets that are accepting backorders on primers.

Wow! That would indeed be some conspiracy. It never occurred to me that they would be that devious.

LOL! I love it when I break a laugh while on the net!
Trouble is, it's not really that funny when you think about it, just add it to the list of everything else we are buying we will never see.
I have been reeeeeally been getting used to my air handguns lately, kiind a like methadone to the heroin addict.

I just came from the local walmart and from my local gun shop.
The guy at walmart said they got a shipment of .40s in two days ago, but they were all gone that day. I bought the last box of .44s he had.
At the local gun shop, Dixie Guns in NC, the owner was moaning about being unable to get ammo to sell to his customers. He says primers, bullets, and cases are now ungettable.
Is he right? I just bought my first revolver, a DW .445, which will obviously require me to handload. I've been calling around, looking for H110 powder, ect. No luck so far.

I have not looked for awhile for components. I would think the hunting style bullets for the 445 should not be that difficult to get, I could be wrong. The large rifle primers required to load it have been a problem, I was lucky enough to be forwarned last fall and bought a case of the primers while the getting was good. If you get to shows there are usually some there early in the show. It is down right crazy right now trying to find stuff. Maybe we have to take up woodworking, you know grip building, until the supply of shooting supplies gets better.
