I haven't fired my big 744 for several years. I already know it's a tack driver even with factory Federal ammo. Benched but hand held, using factory sites, I was picking off quart oil cans five out of six on average at 100 yards. Now I have several things that I have experienced with my 744 that will most definitely affect the impact point. This big boy heats up and stays warm, so the impact point, in my mind, would have to be set with a warm barrel. Also every time I take the barrel off and reassemble after cleaning I have to sight it back in as the impact point changes. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm actually thinking of getting what I would call a portable reloader that I could clamp to the bench and reload at the range to "experiment" with different loads without having to go home, load and then come back. I was a competitive small bore rifle shooter years ago but I have never reloaded. I know without a doubt that I was out shooting the factory Federal ammo with my 744. With a good scope and finding the right accuracy load for my DW I'm expecting a group of 3" or less at 100 yards on a cloudy, calm day. Any suggestions? Reloading manuals? Bullets? Primers? Dies? Powder? Reloader? I have plenty of once fired Federal brass.

Unless you are changing barrel lengths or shrouds, your point of impact should not change. Are you sure that you are getting the barrel nut tight each time?
If that becomes a problem for you, just don't remove the shroud and barrel for cleaning, let it on. Smith shooters have to do that. Unless you are shooting the power control tube (which you shouldn't be) there really isn't any need to remove the barrel for cleaning. Maybe you want to only do that once a year for a thorough cleaning?
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Very common with Dan Wessons. Yes, the interchangeable barrels are a great idea, but I don't like having to rezero the gun each time I swap barrels, or remove them for cleaning. Thus, I own no DW Pistol Pacs. I just leaver the barrels on to clean.
With a good load, my Dan Wessons are capable of 2" groups at 100 meters. Most all of mine are used for handgun silhouette with iron sights, and we shoot out to 200 meters in a match. Several of my DW's have shot perfect scores in matches.
I posted my loads in the other thread about reloading .41 Magnum. Federal is my favorite brass.
