Picked this up a few weeks ago….in great condition except cannot remove grips or barrel nut

waiting on the ratchet strap to try getting the grips off…in preparation trying to remove barrel but the ba nut will not budge

used small vise grips on the wrench T handle for mor leverage, bent the handle…can be seen in the picture

hoping someone has suggestions

thanks

i talked to mike0251 on the phone….he did the post on putting the long bolt thru the barrel with the stripped barrel nut

my barrel nut was still functional so i soaked in liquid wrench for a couple hours then used the DW bolt wrench with 5/8 impact driver

came right off….thanks Mike!

Now…just have to get the grips off….getting the ratchet strap today, will report back

worst case will just cut them off.

Got the pachmyer grips off…no, the tie down ratchet strap did not work

heavy duty exacto knife….wow, those pachmyer grips are really tough, was extremely difficult cutting off

now for the next project.

Glad to hear, that gives hope to others with this malady. Sorry you had to ruin the Pachy's, not sure if the grip could have been twisted a little side to side on the post as that works with a stuck rad hoses to get them off.

They would not come off…lots of liquids wrench, heat gun, ratchet strap…thought the strap would break

when cutting off, thought they were glued on….the gun looks new

Guess that’s what 40+ years will do….so strange

Probably years of cleaners/oils that seeped under it softened the rubber and made it glue like. Well they can still be found reasonably on ebay.

Nice gun, glad it didn't get marred in the process.

Actually the grip was extremely hard….just seemed like it was glued on

The gun had not been handled much in all those years…just sat in a safe were the grips became petrified

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

So did the barrel appear to have locktite used?

No….barrel was perfectly clean. No idea why it was stuck so hard

now it appears perfectly normal

I'm wondering if anyone has tried to use compressed aid to remove a stuck grip? I have used air to remove motorcycle grips that are stuck on, just use a small nozzle and work it under the grip. And fill with air.....

I had a stuck barrel nut on a 15” BA I had recently bought. Nothing worked so I sent it to DW and they could not get it off either without destroying the barrel, but Bob salvaged the shroud.  Still looking for a replacement 15” barrel.  Glad yours came off!

i tried 150 psi compressed air …. now that i know hard the grip material was, it’s understandable why compressed air would not work
