I just learned by "reading the users manual" that you shouldn't tighten the barrelnut when the barrel is hot.

Makes perfect sense.   I just never thought about it like that.

Shooting the Supermags, they have come loose on me.   Grips too.

Now they will get an intermission when shooting the Hot loads.

You guys are still using a threaded rod in your barrels? I wouldn't stick a steel rod with nuts in any of my barrels unless I was prepared to discard it.  I have brought this up several times over the years - if your barrel nut still has some engagement with the wrench, and your wrench is not damaged, just clamp the wrench down on the nut and turn it off.  Get one of these Bessey clamps or comparable.   If you need some heat apply a little heat.  There's basically no risk of damage and a whole lot easier than messing around with rods and nuts.

Here's the link with the photos.  Th aholes over at photobucket stole our photos years ago but you get the idea.

I have learned a lot how to remove a stuck barrel nut

use a barrel bolt with 5/8 socket and a hammer drill

Put something inside the socket like piece of shop paper towel so when you put the socket on the bolt it is putting pressure on the bolt so it won’t slip in the socket. Remove the grips, wrap gun in cleaning cloths, put in vise with soft jaws gun pointing up. Now, bolt in barrel nut…socket in hammer drill pressing down the hammer drill removes the barrel nut.

This has worked on two of my recent acquisitions with severely stuck barrel nuts.

You can use plastic or paper straws, to protect your Dan from tools like this. I always use a straw, when inserting a metal tool into the access hole in the grip bottom of wooden grips to protect the wood when turning the Allen Key or Scredriver to remove or insert the grip screw.
