Picked up a CZ-made .357 a couple weeks ago in good used condition. Shoots well with some .38 Specials I had but haven't tried .357 mags. After removing shroud to clean I noticed barrel fit to frame is very loose. It's an 8 inch barrel and I would be willing to bet there is 1/4" movement out at the muzzle. Upon tightening the barrel nut the barrel would turn into the frame narrowing the cylinder gap. Any thoughts? Is it safe? Joe

I am not an expert on this, but both of my receivers get all my barrels threaded fairly tightly. A wobble that bad would be a little worrisome to me, the threads are loose enough to not fully hold.
I would also worry that the bore is not registered inline with the cylinder, and may lead to excessive wear.
Ii wonder if it is caused by wear, or mismatched parts.
If anyone has detailed questions for you, do you have calipers to measure parts?
Best of luck
Have you ever noticed that 3+5+7 is GREATER than 9+1+1 ? .

I inspected the threads better with magnification and do not see any damage to the threads. I rudely measured the out of round and it's closer to 1/8". If I thread the barrel to .006 gap, open the cylinder and turn an additional 1/4 of a turn it will snug up quite nicely. Is shaving some of the breech down, in order to get to tighter threads, the solution to this problem? Joe

Have you set the gap to .oo6 and tightened the barrel nut properly (hand tight)...?SHOOT
Yes I have set the gap to .006", as difficult it is because when I tighten the barrel nut the barrel wants to turn (easily) into the frame more. If I turn the barrel in a quarter of a turn farther than .006" the slop will go away but at that point the barrel is too far into the frame and the cylinder won't close. Kind of reminds me of the taper you see on pipe threads. I have end for ended the barrel to see if the muzzle threads are any tighter but they are not.
It would be nice to try another barrel to try to eliminate the barrel threads or the frame threads. I'm leaning towards the frame threads as being the problem. Are threads from a 22 the same, as I have two of them?
I think I'll be giving the factory a call. Joe

No, .22 threads are completely different to preclude someone from mistakenly trying to shove a .38 cal bullet through a .22 cal barrel.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
