I hear that hardchrome.. is extremely durable. I have yet to accept the other finishes as be-fitting a gun I own. I do not know of any finishes I would what that I could do on my own.
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.

There are a lot of good hi-tech ceramic and polymer finishes on the market today such as Cerakote, DuraCoat, Gunkote, etc. as well as the traditional chrome, nickel, parkerize, blue, etc. If you're working wtih a stainless gun, I'd leave it stainless. If it's carbon steel, I'd be tempted to try a Cerakote.

Bright Nickel, not chrome. It's beautiful, and I love it, but once was enough for me. If I was having a gun refinished right now, I'd like to have the black matte/AGS/Yukon Kote.
I might like to play with Dura Cote sometime too, maybe if the right "beater" 15-2 4VH came along. I'm a couple of projects behind right now
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I need to find myself a DW in nickel...just so I can see if I really like it or not.
I am still kicking myself for not putting that nickel 15-2 Pac on a credit card a couple months ago. Although...hmmm...I don't think it ever sold, so maybe...!?! Still, I have to wait a bit longer before I go shaking that tree.

Robar NP-3 is supposed to be very durable, it has a nice matte silver look. I had the slide on two different pistols done in SlickShot, with is another teflon type finish which looked pretty good and was vaey durable. It wiped clean with just a silicone cloth no matter how many rounds went thru it.
