I have had some blow back issues before. I guess you are getting blow back with sooty cases and powder hitting your face. Some of the causes can be to light of a load, not enough powder, to light of a bullet, and the primer. You may need a faster powder or heavier bullet. Some shoot the SM with the gap at 0.002. Your primer may not be hot enough. Go by the book, but you can alter somethings in a marginal way. I would work the loads up until you notice no blowback and maybe see clean outer shell cases. Just make sure you stay below the max recommended load and remember that if you load for cold weather, those same bullets could shoot hotter with higher pressures next summer.
One question is are you using a pistol rest, if so you could get blow back from the powder blowing back off the rest from the cylinder gap and barrel cone.
You did mention copper fragments. If that is coming from the bullet it sounds like you have a timing issue which can be serious. You need to check your cylinders to see if they align correctly. Even with commercial ammo some will give blow backs on others wont. I think some guns like different loads. Maybe some of the other guys will chime in here.

It was only once that I had the copper or brass specs,my cases are clean but I think you may have hit it with the rest, not thinking, my my cylinder sits directly behind where I rest the gun and if pressure can't go forward it will come back. But why such lousy accuracy. Thanks again I think you might just be right about the rest.

Danny,
I have noticed specifically with my .375SM that depending upon the twist rate of the barrell and the bullett weight you use, the accuracy can vary alot. I have had most luck with the 220 Grain Hornady's but have also loaded some of the Sierra 200 grain bullets. To my knowledge they are the only two commercially available jacketed bullets made to load in this round. I have had marginal success with the 200 grain bullets. I also noticed the best accuracy when approaching max load limits. The rest can be the cause of your blowback in powder. i have burnt holes in more than one sandbag over the years due to forgetting where to keep the gun resting. Hope this helps a little.

So far I have had great luck with my .375SM with the following load. And so far, have had no reason to mess with it...
Hornady 220GR FP bullet
20G. of IMR 4227
CCI 350 primer
That's in either a cut down .375 Win case, or a .375 IHMSA case, no difference that I can tell thus far. Now, I'm no pro by any means, but my gun has no issues with any of these rounds I feed it. In other words, it has no issues when I pull the "GO" lever, plus the bullets hit hard...they definitely hit hard.
I love this gun.

I did try 21gr. imr4227 yesterday but I was useing cci200,I have a few bullets left that I can try again along with a different rest position.I'm thinking the back pressure would effect accuracy is this correct. I wish the 220gr weren't so costly $40/100 locally when I can find them, cause I would like to be able to shoot alot more. Thanks

Here's Waderman shooting a SM. You can't see these fireballs in the daylight, but this gives you an idea of what your pistol is doing when you shoot it. No wonder we get that blow back sometimes. Waderman records his shooting and takes a still pic from his videos. It's like a camera flash it happens so fast. If we could see these fireballs every time, we probably wouldn't shoot these SM.

This is my first,I got it in trade for a ruger 6" 22 markll from a dealer here, apparently he didn't think ya could get dies for it,which I got from CH4D and when I told him I got a set he just had this I just got screwed look on his face. I also came with a aimpoint 2000.50 piecs of 375sm brass, ammo box and a shoulder holster which doesn't fit to good due to the aimpoint. It is hard to believe that all this hassle with the blowback was caused by the rest,I have no clue why that didn't dawn on me. I'm thankful that the folks here got me back on track. My brother does casting so I might get the mould to try useing in this fun to shoot DW. I will have to try and get a picture up.
