i am working on setting up my CC model 14 to be more suitable to me for CC...
that said, i want to bob the hammer on it to make it function as DAO. anyone done this with good results? part of my wanting this is part fear for the worst should a defensive situation arise and someone somewhere tries to say that "the gun was cocked and he bumped the "hair" trigger and fired on the poor victim that was trying to rob him..." and part of it is me just wanting it to be easier to draw, as i do pocket carry this little beast and part of it comea from me just liking the looks of a bobbed hammer.
i am thiking something along these lines. what are your thoughts on this? i think it would work fine, but would there be any FTF issues caused from removing that much weight from the hammer?
thanks

I can't comment on the hammer (although I doubt bobbing it will be a problem as its the hammer spring that determines the force the hammer hits the firing pin, not the weight) but I can suggest you look to LBruce for a set of CCW grips.
In particular the Speed Grip (yeah, I'm a little biased)
Here it is on my DW
Anyway, I look forward to seeing how the hammer bobbing works for you.
Thanks! I have been in contact with him today and I am in the process of deciding between those and the shootist(?). After seeing yours I think I am leaning more towards the shootist because of the angle of the speed grips, but I still have yet to decide. Thanks for the reply. Wasn't sure if the weight played a role or not. Would hate to render the weapon useless and have to get a new hammer. Lol

My two cents worth on bobbing the hammer. Keep in mind I am no gun smith just an average Joe who likes guns. Yes loss of weight will lessen the force striking the firing pin. mass X velocity = energy or something like that. However I don't believe it will be a big enough loss to matter. After all a few of the DW models came with a bobbed hammer, the PPC or Action Cup, or possibly it was an option, I don't remember which. I assume one could always get a stronger hammer spring if needed. Worse case scenario you would have to replace the hammer. My self I prefer the single action option but to each his own. Just my opinions, do as you see fit, and be sure to keep us up on how it works out.

I sure will. Thanks for the reply! If this was going to be anything more than my CCW I would leave it alone but I'd imagine this is all it will ever be.
I prefer the adjustable sights like the model 15 and my model 44 has for hunting, target, etc.
That just means I have to buy a model 15 now. Right? 🙂

my two cents - I have two S&W J Chief Specials with bobbed hammers...these are pocket carries, and that's the only reason why.
I would leave your Dans alone if they will not be for pocket carry, and just
pratice DOA shooting - easy enough.
