How expected is it to break a hand spring on a large frame Dan Wesson? So far on my 744 4" I've broken two hand springs. In that time I've shot maybe 7000 44 special/magnum and dry fired a lot in addition. No other springs show any damage or have needed to be replaced.
When I got the revolver I replaced all the springs with new ones from Dan Wesson and also replaced the first broken hand spring with a new one from Dan Wesson.
Would this just be normal spring fatigue or possibly a bad batch of springs?

Hello David.
Not sure which spring you are referring to as Hand spring, but 7000 rounds would put a strain on about any spring.
Springs generally don't show wear, but repeated compression and release does weaken them. They would have to be tested on a spring scale to determine if they have weakened.
Replace it and keep shooting.
Good luck.
