 I read this.

Keith, the head honcho at Dan Wesson, tell say  to lube with FP-10, don't use grease, and confirm that CLP is not to be

to treat guns with Duto Treat.

And not to use slide grease.

I was using birchwood Synthetic gun cleaner. and Break Free CLP. and Gold Dot grease.

These will pull the oils out of the finish and leave it dull

Keith is correct and I'll reiterate;

Use FP-10. its the same thing as the oil Dan Wesson supplies with all their new 1911's.

Don't use any harsh cleaners on Duty Treated guns like the ECO, such as  CLP,  Break Free etc.

Grease is too thick and won't let the slide properly seat to the frame for a good break in.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

I've only used light oils to clean mine, no cleaners what so ever.  I only use solvent in the barrel tube, but nothing on the slide, frame or any Duty Coated surface.  Dan Wesson may recommend a particular cleaner, I'm not aware of what that may be.  Check on the 1911 forum for more info, I think there is  a sticky about cleaning Duty Coat.  I personally try to avoid solvents as much as possible except for the bore/barrel.

I agree that the 1911Forum is probably your best source for 1911 info, and they have a GREAT Dan Wesson group.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

 Thanks.

That is where I got the information that I read.

Didn't know if anybody on here might have a DW pistol that they got and if anything came in the boxes with the newer pistols.

Hi, I just got the ECO today and as far as getting any cleaning solvent with the pistol, all I got was the little bottlr of oil that it came with.  As far as a cleaning solvent, the manual doesnt giva any specific solvent or cleaner to use.  I guess we wll need to scrub her down with the recommended  oil..

Don't use any solvents on the duty coated guns, especially ones with toluene, it will dry out the finish.  Duty coat is very durable but strong organic solvents can discolor the finish.  If you need a solvent in the barrel bore, that's fine, just don't spray the slide and frame with things like bore solve, blast n shine etc...

Just use oil to clean those parts.  I like to use Hoppes oil or Rem oil to clean the slide since they are lower viscosity than the provided oil.  I then wipe it down and lube with the included oil.

BTW the oil Dan Wesson supplies is FP-10 which is much higher viscosity than most gun oils.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Thank you Scorpio,

I took my ECO to the range fro the first time yesterday and ran around 200 rounds through her.  She was very dirty and used the fp-10 oil to clean her slide and frame down.  Barrel only I cleaned it with the hoppes 9 solvent.  Lubed it as well with the fp-10.  I tried my best to get the dirt out with the fp-10 but with a little elbow grease she came out fine.

Thanks again for the input..
