Started to hijack the 357 light load thread and thought I'd elaborate here.  There is always concern about crimping cast bullets.  The key is balance; alloy/crimp/velocity/size etc..  As an example, below are pictures of a 375 SM boolit, wide flat nose-gas check- 12 BHN, that I intend to hunt with this year.  The first picture is a sized boolit in the caliper and a loaded, annealed, case with medium to heavy crimp.  The caliper shows .377"; .001" over my cylinder throat size.

Next, I disassembled the loaded round with 4 med raps of the mallet.

As you can see, the case mouth opened up and the size of the disassembled boolit is unchanged.

Well I don't load for a .375 is it? I do load for a .357 as we load for a number of other rounds. I do crimp my loads, I also use lead bullets, I cast them so I figure I should use them. When I load a cylinder or even lately a magazine, it is loaded with my ammo. I made it, I know what it will do and GOD get in the way. ;)

After rereading that web site from Dardas and your question on the beveled base boolits.

I decided today to reload the 357's and 38's with out belling or expanding the case. That beveled base allowed the boolit to set straight and slide in with no issues. I did a light crimp at the crimp groove though with a lee factory crimp die. There was no resizing of the expanded case through the die either.

Sounds good.  With the crimp, you may get a smaller Standard Deviation in velocity- not sure if you clock or not.  I've played around with crimping a little to try to get a more uniform ignition.  Sometimes I get lucky and some times I don't- that's half the fun.  I always make a dummy round so if a load works- I don't have to worry about trying to dial in seating depth and crimp.
